Lady Eagles Open at Home with 74-47 Victory Over Southeastern Baptist

Game Recap:
The Lady Eagles opened the season in convincing fashion, defeating Southeastern Baptist 74-47 during alumni homecoming weekend in their first-ever game in the John R. Hall Field House. Coming off a 25-5 campaign in 2025-2026, the Lady Eagles overcame an early eight-point deficit with a dominant second-quarter run to take control of their season opener.

Micah Coalson, Abby Matney, Amy Ahrens, Reagan Moilan, and Sky Boyd earned the start for the Lady Eagles. After Southeastern Baptist jumped out to a 5-0 lead, Boyd put the Lady Eagles on the board with a jumper two minutes into the game. Freshman Clara Bieber provided an early spark off the bench, scoring back-to-back baskets to give the Lady Eagles a 7-5 advantage. Both teams struggled to settle in, combining for 15 first-quarter turnovers as Southeastern Baptist took an 18-16 lead into the second quarter.

Southeastern Baptist opened the second quarter with three-pointers on its first two possessions, extending its lead to 24-16 with just over nine minutes remaining in the half. From there, the Lady Eagles took over, closing the half on a 28-3 run.

Back-to-back three-pointers from Rachel Phelps and Matney sparked the turnaround. The Lady Eagles shot 11-for-20 from the field in the quarter, with Boyd scoring 12 points and Matney, Moilan, and Phelps each connecting from beyond the arc. Boyd capped the half with a buzzer-beating layup off an assist from Matney, sending the Lady Eagles into the break with a 44-27 lead.

The Lady Eagles carried that momentum into the third quarter, outscoring Southeastern Baptist 15-6 to build a 59-33 advantage. Across the second and third quarters, the Lady Eagles outscored the visitors 43-15.

Early in the fourth, a basket from Bieber and Matney's third three-pointer helped push the lead to its largest margin of the game at 64-36. Boyd added seven points in the final quarter, while Matney and Moilan contributed three-pointers as the Lady Eagles finished off the 74-47 victory.

Boyd led the way with 33 points and 18 rebounds, recording her 21st career double-double. The senior guard shot 16-for-23 from the field while adding 4 assists and 3 steals. Bieber made an immediate impact in her collegiate debut, finishing with 13 points on 6-for-12 shooting, 7 rebounds, and 4 steals.
