South Region Champions Again: Lady Eagles Complete 16-Point Comeback Against Bob Jones

Game Recap:
After a narrow, tightly contested victory over Toccoa Falls in the semifinals, the Lady Eagles faced a familiar opponent in their championship game, Bob Jones University. In their last region championship matchup, Bob Jones upset the Lady Eagles in the 2022 regional championship, but this Lady Eagles team was determined to rewrite that story. After their lowest scoring quarter of the season, the Lady Eagles found themselves down 16 points early. In one of the greatest comebacks in program history, they stormed back, outscoring BJU 29-10 in the final twelve minutes to claim the region title.

The opening of this championship game was not the Lady Eagles' best. Facing a 2-14 deficit in the first five minutes, they struggled early, shooting just 1-7 from the field. After a Sky Boyd layup, the Lady Eagles trailed 16-4 at the end of the first quarter, marking their lowest scoring quarter of the season.

A quick bucket to open the second quarter gave the Lady Eagles a spark as they searched for momentum. The second quarter was a much stronger showing, as they narrowly outscored BJU 12-11. Despite continued shooting struggles, key baskets from Boyd, Coalson, and Bosher kept the Lady Eagles within striking distance. Although they won the quarter, the Lady Eagles still trailed 27-16 heading into halftime.

The second half began on a positive note, with Boyd netting her 10th point of the game on an assist from Dudek, but BJU answered with two straight scores. Down 32-18, Bosher knocked down the Lady Eagles' first three-pointer of the game, only to see BJU respond again. The Lady Eagles trimmed the lead to 11, but the Bruins continued to counter and maintain a double-digit advantage. After two Boyd free throws, the deficit dropped to single digits, and a steal and transition bucket by Bosher cut the lead to seven. Bob Jones responded with a quick 9-3 run to push the margin back to 13. Ahrens and Bosher closed out the third quarter scoring for the Lady Eagles, who entered the final quarter trailing 49-38.

With ten minutes standing between them and a regional championship, the Lady Eagles prepared for a comeback. The fourth quarter began with a dream start as Ahrens came up with a steal and score in the opening thirty seconds. Back-to-back baskets from Boyd and a later free throw trimmed the deficit to four, the smallest margin since early in the first quarter. Opening the quarter on a 7-0 run, the Lady Eagles forced BJU to respond with a three-pointer to slow the momentum. An offensive rebound and putback by Ahrens, followed by a Bosher three-pointer for her 16th point of the game, brought the Lady Eagles within two. Another BJU three briefly slowed the surge, but Reagan Moilan answered with her first three-pointer of the game. After battling back from a 16-point deficit, the Lady Eagles were down just two with over five minutes remaining.

In dominant fashion, the Lady Eagles closed the final 6:08 on a 13-2 run. Sparked by Moilan's three-pointer, the momentum fully shifted. A perfect trip to the free-throw line by Bosher and a driving layup gave the Lady Eagles their first lead of the game, 57-55, with 3:08 remaining. Boyd led the charge late, scoring six points during the run. The Lady Eagles held BJU to just 8 fourth-quarter points while scoring a game-high 25 in the final period. When the final buzzer sounded, the Lady Eagles had completed one of the best comebacks in program history and claimed their fourth consecutive South Region Championship.

Leading the Lady Eagles were Sky Boyd and Brooklyn Bosher, who combined for 45 of the team's 63 points. Boyd finished with 25 points and 9 rebounds, shooting 9-14 from the field and 7-8 from the free-throw line. Bosher recorded her 8th straight 20+ point game with 20 points and 4 rebounds. Sophomore Amy Ahrens played a pivotal role as well, logging 31 minutes and contributing 8 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 assists. With additional baskets from Coalson, Boutwell, and Moilan, the Lady Eagles battled for all 40 minutes and emerged with the Region Title.
