Lady Eagles Pull Away in the Second Half and Advance to the South Region Championship

Game Recap:
Coming into the 2026 South Region tournament as the #1 seed, the Lady Eagles are the top team to beat and the team standing between everyone else and the banner. After defeating Southeastern Baptist 83-26, Toccoa Falls advanced to the semifinal to face the Lady Eagles a third time this season. In a game with 10 lead changes and 4 ties in the first half, it was a thrilling semifinal battle. But in the second half, the Lady Eagles were able to pull away and secure the 65-54 victory.

In the opening two minutes, both teams settled into the physicality of the game, with the score tightly contested at 6-5 as Bosher led all scorers with six early points. The next three minutes were dominated by the Lady Eagles with an 8-0 run, with buckets coming from Boyd, Bosher, and Adams while holding Toccoa 0-2 from the field during the stretch. In the closing three minutes of the quarter, however, Toccoa responded with a counter run, scoring nine unanswered points and knotting the game at 14-14 at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter began with a layup by seniorAmber Dudek, assisted by Coalson, to stop the Lady Eagles' four-minute scoreless stretch. For the first five minutes of the quarter, the teams traded buckets and stops almost in perfect sync. Neither team led by more than two points during that stretch. After a three-pointer by Bosher, assisted again by Coalson, the Lady Eagles slowly began to create separation, outscoring Toccoa 9-4 in the final three minutes of the half. Heading into halftime, the Lady Eagles held a narrow 34-28 lead after a jumper by Bosher with seconds remaining before the buzzer.

Early in the third quarter, the teams once again traded buckets and defensive stops through the opening four minutes. Sophomore Amy Ahrens led the scoring during this stretch, pouring in six quick points after battling foul trouble in the first half. In the middle portion of the quarter, both teams went scoreless for three straight minutes until junior Reagan Moilan broke the drought off a Boutwell assist, pushing the Lady Eagles' lead to a game-high ten points. Toccoa quickly answered to keep the game within reach. As the third quarter came to a close, the Lady Eagles held their largest lead of the day at 50-38 after Ahrens converted a last-second bucket to send the game into the fourth.

Toccoa opened the fourth quarter a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line, cutting the Lady Eagles' lead back to single digits. A jumper by Bosher pushed the lead back to ten, but a few more free throws and a layup from Toccoa trimmed the margin to just six points, the smallest since the 7:49 mark of the third quarter. Another clutch bucket from Boyd halted the Toccoa comeback and stabilized the lead. In the closing two minutes, the Lady Eagles executed on both ends of the floor to outscore and hold off Toccoa's final push. Although Toccoa narrowly outscored the Lady Eagles 16-15 in the fourth quarter, eight of TFC's 16 points came from the free throw line. Ultimately, it was the Lady Eagles' resolve and grit that secured the 65-54 semifinal victory.

Leading the way was junior Brooklyn Bosher with 23 points, 5 steals, and 4 rebounds in 35 minutes of play. The Lady Eagles' only other double-digit scorer was fellow junior Sky Boyd, who recorded 13 points and 10 rebounds for her 11th double-double of the season. The victory was fueled by a complete team effort on both ends of the floor, with scoring contributions from Ahrens, Boutwell, Moilan, Coalson, Dudek, and Adams.

What's Next:
Tomorrow, the Lady Eagles will take the court once more in 2026 against South Region rival Bob Jones University… but this game truly means more as it is for the 2026 South Region championship! With both teams coming off narrow victories in the semifinals, the Lady Bruins and Lady Eagles will have to dig deep to claim the championship.
