Match Preview:
The Lady Eagles enter the week with a full slate of matches, beginning with a tri-match on Tuesday before competing in the South Region Tipoff Tournament this weekend. Looking to continue their undefeated season, PCC travels to Montgomery, ALÂ to face Andrew College and Faulkner University.
Tuesday's matchups differ significantly in both history and difficulty. The Lady Eagles will first face the Andrew College Fighting Tigers. PCC is undefeated against Andrew College all-time at 5-0 and has never dropped a set in the series. In their most recent meeting late last season, the Lady Eagles earned a 3-0 victory.
Andrew College enters Tuesday's match with a 1-4 record. Freshman #5 Angelina Chambrey leads the team with 43 kills through its first five matches. She recorded 18 kills and 17 digs in the Fighting Tigers' victory over Toccoa Falls earlier this season. With Chambrey's strong start, the Lady Eagles will likely focus much of their defensive effort on limiting her effectiveness at the net.
The matchup against Faulkner University presents a different challenge. Faulkner will host the tri-match and look to improve its 1-3 home record. PCC trails 6-20Â in the all-time series between the two programs.
The teams met twice last season and split the season series. Faulkner won the first meeting in straight sets before PCC responded with a five-set victory in the second matchup. Faulkner enters the tri-match with a 4-6 overall record, but it carries some momentum after going 3-1 at the FHU Labor Day Tournament on Sept. 4-5.
Despite the contrasting histories, the Lady Eagles enter Tuesday with confidence in both matchups. PCC is coming off a 3-1 victory over United States Sports University last Tuesday and continues to become more battle-tested. The third set against USSU extended to 31-29, with USSU eventually taking the set. However, PCC battled for every point before responding strongly to close out the match.
Senior Lyssie Metzker and freshman Evelyn Whitson have led the Lady Eagles' attack with 45 and 40 kills, respectively. Metzker has been especially effective late in sets, recording several timely kills to keep PCC alive against USSU. Whitson has anchored the Lady Eagles' middle attack with an impressive start to her collegiate career.
Senior libero Hope Brooks continues to lead the team defensively with 99 digs. The Lady Eagles have shown considerable promise early in the season, receiving quality contributions from both new and experienced players. Their balanced lineup has helped them remain undefeated entering a demanding week of competition.
