Lady Eagles Go 2-0 at Home Tri-Match as Anderson Makes History

Coastal Alabama Recap:
To open the day, the Lady Eagles faced a familiar opponent, Coastal Alabama Community College. Just a week ago, the Lady Eagles traveled to Brewton, AL, and matched up against Coastal, winning in a five-set thriller. However, playing in "The Nest" is a different story. In dominating fashion, the Lady Eagles swept Coastal 3-0, with set victories of 25-15, 25-19, and 25-21.

In the opening set, the teams traded points and momentum early, with the Lady Eagles holding a 10-9 advantage. After back-to-back kills by Crumly and Anderson, followed by a Hope Brooks ace, the Lady Eagles went on a 7-2 run to take a significant 17-11 lead. With continued dominance at the net, the Lady Eagles defeated the Coyotes 25-15 in the first set.

The second set followed a similar pattern, with the Lady Eagles coming out hot, grabbing the momentum and jumping out to a 12-6 lead. The Coyotes battled back, however, cutting the deficit to 15-12. Three kills from Metzker, Anderson, and Whitson sparked a 5-1 run that allowed the Lady Eagles to grow their lead. As the second set came to a close, Sydney Anderson recorded her 999th career kill, immediately followed by a Madisyn Kandel ace to end the set 25-19.

The moment of the night came early in the third set, when senior hitter Sydney Anderson recorded her 1,000th career kill, becoming the first Lady Eagle to reach this career milestone. Needing 12 kills entering the match, Anderson emphatically finished with 16 kills to surpass the 1,000 mark. The Lady Eagles dominated most of the third set, holding a 21-12 lead. Despite Coastal attempting to mount a comeback with a 9-3 run, the Lady Eagles held off the Coyotes to win the third set, 25-21.

United States Sports Recap:
After a match break, the Lady Eagles stepped back on the court to face United States Sports University. After winning a four-set match against USSU on Sept. 1, the Lady Eagles looked to repeat that performance at home.

Through the first nine points of the match, the teams traded points back and forth, with USSU holding a 5-4 lead. But after a USSU service error and three kills from Evelyn Whitson, the Lady Eagles took control of the scoring and the momentum, taking the lead and growing their advantage to 14-7. Following a USSU timeout, USSU went on a quick 6-2 run to pull within a manageable 16-13. But after two Anderson kills, the Lady Eagles regained the momentum and rode it to a 25-21 victory.

Early in the second set, USSU grabbed the momentum with a 9-5 advantage over the Lady Eagles. But a Lady Eagles timeout quickly changed the momentum, and the team went on a 4-1 run to trail by just one point. As the set continued, the teams battled, and the scoreboard sat at 17-17 after a Karissa Crumly kill knotted things up. That kill sparked a 5-0 run for the Lady Eagles that captured the momentum and helped them build a 24-20 lead. But USSU answered with six straight points, stealing the second set 26-24.

After the heartbreaking loss in the second set, the team had to refocus and lock back in for the third set, and they did just that. Jumping out to an early 12-6 lead, the Lady Eagles never looked back as they dominated the third set, winning it 25-15. With five kills from Anderson, five from Metzker, and two from Karissa Crumly, the Lady Eagles' dominance at the net led to the big set victory.

The fourth set opened with the Lady Eagles continuing their dominance, jumping out to an 8-2 lead behind five straight serves by Metzker and kills from Lyssie Metzker, Sydney Anderson, Olivia Boyd, and Evelyn Whitson. As the set continued, USSU began to chip away, but the Lady Eagles maintained their lead. After USSU narrowed the gap to two points (17-15), the Lady Eagles went on yet another strong run to extend their lead to 23-17. As the set and match concluded, the Lady Eagles came out on top 25-18, earning another 3-1 match victory over United States Sports University.

What's Next:
Saturday, the Lady Eagles will be in Tennessee, participating in their 6th tri-match of the season. This tri-match includes NCCAA D2 opponents, Welch College and Grace Christian University. With an overall record of 11-1 record against these two opponents, the Lady Eagles look to continue their winning streak, extending it to five straight matches!
