Lady Eagles Go 1-1 in Saturday's NAIA Tri-Match

Florida College Recap:
The Lady Eagles opened their Saturday tri-match against the host school, the Florida College Falcons. The Lady Eagles came out a little slow, falling behind 0-4. Despite the slow start, they gained some momentum and cut the deficit to a manageable 6-8. However, after another Falcon run, this one 5-0, the Lady Eagles were unable to regain their footing and dropped the opening set, 15-25.

A block by Anderson and a kill by Metzker opened the second set. After a brief Falcon run, the Lady Eagles went on a 6-0 run of their own. That run was quickly answered by a 13-3 Falcon run that gave Florida College a 17-11 lead. Even though they were down big, the Lady Eagles showed their grit and determination, battling back to take a 22-21 lead. Unfortunately, the lead was short-lived, as the Falcons quickly regained the advantage and took the second set, 25-23.

After giving everything they had in their comeback late in the second set, the Lady Eagles opened the third set trailing just 7-8. Midway through the set, though, the Falcons took the momentum with a 10-2 run that gave Florida College an 18-9 lead. Even in what would be the final set, the Lady Eagles never gave up. Three Anderson kills, a Metzker kill, and a Crumly block helped them battle back to within 18-22. Despite the late push, the Lady Eagles fell short, 22-25, in the third and final set.

Webber International Recap:
After the loss, the Lady Eagles needed a short memory, as they had to turn around and face Webber International University less than an hour later. The Lady Eagles came out firing and jumped out to an early 7-3 lead. As the opening set continued, Webber fought back to tie the score at 13-13. A Karissa Crumly kill broke the tie and sparked a 4-1 run that pushed the Lady Eagle lead to 17-14. Webber made a late push, but a kill from Sydney Anderson capped off a 25-20 win in the opening set.

The Lady Eagles started the second set slowly and fell behind 1-5, but kills by Whitson and Anderson chipped away at the deficit, and the Lady Eagles took the lead back, 8-7. After a Webber timeout, however, Webber dominated the rest of the set, outscoring the Lady Eagles 17-8 down the stretch to win the second set, 25-15.

Just as they had between the two matches, the Lady Eagles needed a short memory, and they did just that. Two kills from Crumly and three kills from Madisyn Kandel in the first 10 points sparked a 10-5 lead to open the third set. Webber briefly slowed the Lady Eagles' momentum, cutting the lead to 17-14. The Lady Eagles then built a 20-15 lead, but Webber battled back to knot the score at 20-20. After a Pensacola timeout, Whitson recorded a clutch kill to stop the 5-0 Webber run. The Lady Eagles then closed out the third set, 25-23, with a Crumly kill and an Anderson block.

The fourth set started differently than any of the others, with the teams tied at 7-7 and neither able to take control early. After another timely Whitson kill and a later kill by Crumly, the Lady Eagles went on a 7-2 run to take a 13-9 lead. Webber fought back once again, this time taking a 21-20 lead. After a Pensacola timeout, the Lady Eagles took over with a 5-0 run, sparked by two Lyssie Metzker kills and a Madisyn Kandel ace, to close out the match with a 25-21 win.

What's Next:
Tuesday night, the Lady Eagles host United States Sports University and Coastal Alabama. Taking their home court for the fifth tri-match of the season, the Lady Eagles hold a 9-5 historical record against these two team but hope for a 2-0 record on Tuesday night!
