Lady Eagles Extend Their 2026 Winning Streak

Match Recap:
Following a weekend of sweeps, the Lady Eagles returned home Tuesday night to face United States Sports University. PCC entered the match having defeated USSU twice last season without dropping a set. Despite falling 31-29 in a thrilling third set, the Lady Eagles responded in the fourth to secure a four-set victory.

The teams exchanged points early in the opening set before a USSU attack error and a kill by Olivia Boyd sparked an 8-1 PCC run. The surge gave the Lady Eagles an 11-5 advantage. PCC later used a dominant 7-1 run to extend its lead to double digits before closing the set on an 8-2 run, capped by a Lyssie Metzker kill, to win 25-13.

USSU opened the second set with an 8-4 lead, but another timely kill by Metzker ignited an 11-1 Lady Eagles run. Metzker, Crumly, Anderson and Madisyn Kandel contributed kills during the stretch, while Whitson added a service ace. The run gave PCC a 15-9 advantage, and the Lady Eagles maintained control to win the set 25-15.

The third set became the story of the night. Neither team led by more than five points during a back-and-forth battle. Consecutive kills by Whitson and Metzker gave PCC an 18-14 advantage, but USSU responded with three unanswered points and eventually tied the set at 20. A kill by Anderson and a USSU attack error pushed the Lady Eagles ahead 22-20. USSU answered with four consecutive points to reach set point at 24-22, but a service error and another clutch kill by Metzker tied the score at 24. The teams continued trading points, with neither side willing to give in. Despite three kills by Metzker and two from Whitson during extra points, USSU escaped with a 31-29 victory.

After dropping just their second set of the season, the Lady Eagles delivered a gritty response in the fourth. PCC jumped ahead 5-2 and extended its advantage to 10-5. USSU attempted to rally, but the Lady Eagles remained in control behind three kills from Anderson and contributions from Metzker, Whitson, Boyd, Crumly, Paityn Kandel and Madisyn Kandel. PCC won the fourth set 25-18 to complete the match victory and extend its season-opening winning streak to five matches.

Metzker led the Lady Eagles' attack with 12 kills on 34 attempts. Whitson and Anderson followed with 9 kills apiece on 16 and 22 attempts, respectively. Defensively, Madisyn Kandel and Hope Brooks combined for 29 digs and 39 serve receptions.

What's Next:
After a week off, the Lady Eagles will travel to Montgomery, Alabama, next Tuesday for a tri-match against Andrew College and Faulkner University. PCC owns a 5-0 record against Andrew and a 6-20 record against Faulkner. The matches will provide another challenge as the undefeated Lady Eagles prepare for next weekend's NCCAA South Region Tipoff Tournament.
