Eagles Roll Past Oakwood 4-0 in Home Shutout

Match Recap:
After a big win in Talladega, AL., and a tough loss in Knoxville, TN., last week, the Eagles returned to their home field Saturday night to face NAIA opponent Oakwood University. Two goals in the opening eight minutes staked Erskine to an early lead, and the Eagles controlled the match from start to finish.

The Eagles owned possession from the opening whistle, generating three corner kicks and two shots in the first five minutes. On the third corner, Jackson Clarke served the cross into the box and found the head of defender Sam Vannet, who buried the first goal of the match and the first of his collegiate career. Less than two minutes later, freshman Aaron Diaz slipped a through ball to Clarke, who finished it for his fifth goal of the season and the Eagles' second of the night. In the 25th minute, freshman Kayden Tucker cut back into the middle of the field and found Clarke again, whose second goal of the night was his sixth of the season. The Eagles carried a dominant 3-0 lead into the halftime break.

Despite 11 substitutions in the second half, the Eagles kept the pressure on while getting quality reps across the roster. In the 72nd minute, crisp ball movement and assists from Crawford and Clarke set up Dinis Pires, who netted the fourth goal of the match and his first as an Eagle. The Eagles closed out a 4-0 win over the Oakwood Ambassadors for their second victory of the season.

What's Next
The Eagles head to Georgia and South Carolina next week for a two-match road trip. They open conference play Thursday at Toccoa Falls before traveling to Central, S.C., on Saturday to face NCAA Division II opponent Southern Wesleyan University. The Eagles hold a 13-1-1 all-time record against Toccoa Falls and have no previous history with Southern Wesleyan.
