The Eagles men's basketball team returns to The Nest on Tuesday evening to open their 2025 regular season with a matchup against the newest member of the NCCAA South Region, the Baptist University of Florida Eagles.
After finishing last season 13–15 and bowing out early in postseason play, the Eagles enter the new campaign focused on delivering their first winning season since 2022–23. Leading the charge are returners Kaiden Pack, Liam Gerdts, and Josh Azucena, supported by a talented rotation of newcomers and returners eager to make their mark in the 2025-2026 season.
The Eagles tipped off their season Saturday on the road against perennial NAIA powerhouse University of Mobile. The Rams jumped out to a 15-point advantage in the opening five minutes, but the Eagles responded with a 15–4 run to swing the momentum back their way. Late in the half, Pack and Gerdts attacked the rim for strong finishes before sophomore sharpshooter Luke Peck buried a deep three to complete the rally. PCC carried that surge into the break, leading 35–33.
The second half was a hard-fought battle featuring multiple lead changes and defensive stands. The Eagles held control for much of the frame, maintaining the advantage for nearly 15 minutes behind key performances from Gerdts, who finished with 13 points and 5 rebounds, and Peck, who caught fire from deep, shooting 57% from beyond the arc in the second half and 61% overall. Despite a late rally from Mobile in the final minute, the Eagles' effort proved they can compete with elite opposition.
With a strong performance to build on, the Eagles now turn their focus to Tuesday's home opener. Looking to capture their first win and set the tone for the season ahead, they'll aim to defend The Nest in front of a packed home crowd.
