Game Preview
This Saturday at 3:00 PM in The Nest, the Eagles men's basketball team will honor its senior class and face off against Trinity College of Jacksonville in one of the most meaningful matchups of the season. With Senior Night energy in full effect, Pensacola Christian will look to carry momentum from recent wins and send its graduating leaders out with a victory in front of the final home crowd of the season.
The Eagles enter Saturday's game riding high after a big home victory over Bob Jones University, one of the most exciting wins of the year. In that rivalry matchup, Pensacola controlled the paint, shared scoring effectively, and pulled away late for a 74-68 win, showcasing balance on both ends of the floor. Standout nights from seniors Kaiden Pack, Liam Gerdts, and Deric Woods have been crucial as of late, and their continued leadership has helped the team stay competitive in tight NCCAA South Region play. PCC also notched another quality performance in a win over Southeastern Baptist College on Tuesday evening, highlighting the team's ability to close out games with poise. As the Eagles enter Senior Night, they'll look to harness that confidence and feed off the home crowd's energy.
Trinity College of Jacksonville comes into the weekend with a balanced record and a mix of experienced contributors. TJC's schedule has shown them capable of scoring in bunches when needed and challenging opponents on the interior, with a roster that features consistent scoring throughout. While TJC has experienced ups and downs this season, they have proven difficult to contain when their key pieces get going, and their willingness to compete on the glass and push the tempo in transition will challenge the Eagles' defense this Saturday.
Most importantly, Saturday's game is Senior Night, and this year's class has been instrumental in shaping the Eagles' season:
Josh Azucena — A steady presence in the rotation, Azucena's composed ball handling and veteran experience have anchored the Eagles' offense. He has also provided reliable defense, rebounding, and scoring when needed.
Kaiden Pack — A multi-time team leader in scoring, Pack's scoring punch and all-around playmaking have made him one of the most dynamic players in the region this season.
Blaise Conlon — Known for his hustle and inside presence, Conlon's effort on both ends of the floor has given the Eagles toughness and depth night in and night out.
Deric Woods — Woods has been an energy catalyst down low, providing defense and rebounding that have changed the tone of games, especially as the season has progressed.
Goodnews Akonofua — The Eagles' commanding big man, Akonafua's shot-blocking, rebounding, and imposing presence in the post have been vital and have made him a crowd favorite this season.
Liam Gerdts — Gerdts has provided the Eagles with quiet yet steady scoring, rebounding, and leadership throughout the season, especially in the biggest moments.
These six seniors have shaped the culture of the program over their careers, and Saturday gives Eagle Nation a chance to send them out with the celebration and support they've earned.
This rivalry matchup and Senior Night tradition always draw one of the most spirited crowds of the season, and with home court advantage and so much on the line, the Nest is sure to be electric. Come out to support your Eagles, cheer on the seniors, and witness the final chapter of the 2025–26 home campaign.
Tip-off is set for 3:00 PM Saturday in The Nest, don't miss the action!
