Lady Eagles Win Big Against Southeastern Baptist

Game Recap:
After winning their last three region games, the Lady Eagles were looking to extend their winning streak to four region wins. This also marked their first home game of the semester, so they were eager to make a strong statement. The last time these two teams met, the Lady Eagles triumphed 69-64 in overtime two years ago. In the first half, the Lady Eagles came out strong, taking a commanding 43-9 lead by halftime. They never looked back, running away with a decisive 80-27 victory in the second half.

The game started with a fast-break layup by Sky Boyd, putting the Lady Eagles on the scoreboard first. They then went on an impressive 18-0 run, capped off by a three-pointer from Mellany Bowser, giving the Lady Eagles an 18-0 lead to start. At the end of the first quarter, Amy Ahrens hit a buzzer-beating putback layup to extend the lead to 22-4. In the second quarter, Kristin Mentzer started the scoring with a quick three-pointer, followed by a 19-0 run from the Lady Eagles. Another three-pointer from Bowser put them up 41-7. Kristin Mentzer capped the quarter with a quick layup, and the Lady Eagles went into halftime leading 43-9.

After halftime, Sky Boyd opened the third quarter with a layup, and then Abigail Winslow stole the ball and scored another layup, giving the Lady Eagles an early 4-point spurt. The Lady Eagles outscored the Lady Chargers 18-6 in the quarter, entering the fourth with a commanding 61-15 lead. To start the fourth quarter, Lexi Garcia made the first field goal of the quarter for the Lady Eagles, and they held onto the lead for the remainder of the game. The final score was 80-27, marking a big win for the Lady Eagles in their first home game of the semester.

Alissa Brewer recorded the first triple-double of the season for the Lady Eagles, falling just three steals short of a quadruple-double. Brewer finished the game with 10 points, 12 rebounds, 11 assists, and 7 steals—an impressive stat line for the senior. Mellany Bowser, coming off the bench, led the team in scoring with 15 points. The bench was excellent in the win, contributing 33 out of the Lady Eagles' 80 points.
