Lady Eagles Win in Dominating Fashion Over the Bruins

Game Recap: 
After a big win against LB Wallace on Tuesday, the Lady Eagles were looking to secure their third victory of the week and finish strong. They also aimed to defend their home court. The last time these two teams met earlier this season was at BJU, the Lady Eagles won by just one point, 76-75. So, this home game was expected to be a tough fight. The Lady Eagles came out firing, dominating the first half with a 49-15 lead. They finished the game strong, securing a 76-45 win.

The game began with a 9-0 run for the Lady Eagles, capped off by a big "and-one" play from Alissa Brewer to put the team ahead early. The Lady Eagles went on several smaller runs in the first quarter, finishing with a 5-0 run, highlighted by a key 3-pointer from Kristin Mentzer. After the first quarter, the Lady Eagles led 25-8.

In the second quarter, the Lady Eagles made three consecutive 3-pointers. Mellany Bowser hit the first one, followed by two from Abby Matney, bringing the score to 34-8. The Lady Eagles then went on another 9-0 run, capped off by a layup from Alissa Brewer. Kristin Mentzer closed out the half with a crucial 3-pointer, giving the Lady Eagles a comfortable 49-15 lead at halftime. Abby Matney led the team in scoring in the first half with 12 points, going 4-6 from three.

After the break, Amy Ahrens opened the second half with a quick layup to start the scoring for the Lady Eagles. Following by some back-and-forth scoring in the third quarter, the Lady Eagles went on a 7-0 run, capped off by a big 3-pointer from Mellany Bowser, to make it 59-23. Rachel Phelps hit a jump shot to end the third quarter, giving the Lady Eagles a commanding 63-29 lead. The fourth quarter began with a strong 3-pointer from Rachel Phelps. The Lady Bruins were unable to recover, and the Lady Eagles went on to win the game 76-45.

Abby Matney led the team, coming off the bench to score 14 points, with 2 rebounds and 1 steal. Alissa Brewer had an incredible triple-double performance, scoring 13 points, grabbing 19 rebounds, and dishing out 10 assists. The bench played a big role, contributing 32 points out of the Lady Eagles' 76.


What's Next:
The Lady Eagles' next game is on Tuesday, February 18th, when they will travel to Southeastern Baptist. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. In their last meeting two weeks ago at home, the Lady Eagles secured a dominant 80-27 victory. They will be looking to finish their final road game of the season on a strong note.
