Eagles Fall to the Bruins at Home

Game Recap:
Heading into tonight's showdown against the Bruins, the Eagles were in a must-win situation to potentially secure the top seed for the upcoming South Region tournament. This heated rivalry did not disappoint, as the game remained tight from start to finish. With neither team ever leading by double digits, six ties, and seven lead changes, it was a battle throughout. Unfortunately for the Eagles, it was the Bruins who made the final push, edging out a 69-65 victory.

Right from the tip, the action was intense. On the opening possession, Liam Gerdts knocked down a three-pointer, setting the tone for a fast-paced contest. In the first four minutes alone, the teams traded the lead three times and found themselves tied on three separate occasions, proving that neither side would go down easily. The Eagles built a 14-10 advantage early, with Gerdts carrying the load by scoring the team's first eight points of the game. Midway through the half, an 8-2 Eagles run extended the lead to 22-15, but the Bruins answered back. Over the final six minutes before halftime, they put together a 16-10 surge, trimming the Eagles' lead to just one at the break. With a combined 19 turnovers and 12 fouls in the first 20 minutes, it was clear that this game was going to be a physical battle from start to finish.

Coming out of halftime, the Eagles struggled to find their rhythm, going without a field goal for over two minutes. The Bruins capitalized with a 7-0 run, taking a 42-36 lead—their first advantage since trailing 31-30 in the first half. With 13:01 remaining, they pushed their lead to the largest of the night at nine points (52-43). As the second half wore on, the Eagles continued to fight but still found themselves trailing by nine with under four minutes left. However, they refused to go down without a fight. In a two-minute stretch, they stormed back with a 9-2 run, being led by Josh Azucena who scored 7-straight points for the Eagles, forcing a tie game with just 1:30 to go. But just as quickly as the Eagles had rallied, the Bruins had an answer, responding with a 6-0 run to put the game out of reach. After Kaiden Pack went 2-for-3 from the free-throw line with less than a second on the clock, the final buzzer sounded, sealing the Eagles' 69-65 defeat—their third region loss of the season.

Offensively, the Eagles leaned heavily on Liam Gerdts, and he delivered a strong performance with 24 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 blocks while shooting an efficient 9-for-15 from the field and 6-for-12 from beyond the arc. Kaiden Pack (16 points) and Josh Azucena (12 points) were the only other double-digit scorers for the Eagles.
