Lady Eagles Sweep Pool Play to Advance to National Semifinal

Emmaus Recap:
As they've done all season against NCCAA DII opponents, the Lady Eagles once again dominated their competition in a 3-0 sweep, defeating Emmaus University in their second pool play match of the National Tournament.

The opening set was a back-and-forth battle early, with the Lady Eagles holding just a 7-5 edge. Fueled by two kills from Kandel and another from Boyd, the Lady Eagles pulled ahead 13-7. As the set progressed, they extended their lead to 20-13 and closed on a 5-1 run to take the first set 25-14.

Set two started tighter. After an early 7-3 lead for the Lady Eagles, Emmaus battled back to tie things at 9-9. The two teams traded points to a 19-19 tie before the Lady Eagles capitalized on an Emmaus error and surged with three kills and an ace to close out a 25-19 win.

The third set flipped the script, as the Lady Eagles trailed 7-14 early. But showing their trademark grit, they rallied with an 8-1 run highlighted by a Kandel kill and two aces to tie the set at 15-15. From there, both teams exchanged points until a 20-20 tie. Three straight Emmaus errors gave PCC a 23-20 advantage, but Emmaus responded with four points of their own to gain set point at 23-24. Refusing to fold, the Lady Eagles answered with a Boyd kill followed by two more Emmaus errors to complete the comeback, taking the set 26-24 and recording their 19th sweep of the season.

Arlington Recap:
After a short break between matches, the Lady Eagles turned their focus to the #2 team in the nation and defending National Champions, Arlington Baptist. The Lady Eagles came out firing with a 3-0 start before Arlington countered with a 5-0 run to take a brief lead. PCC then answered with a 6-1 burst featuring two blocks, an ace, and a kill to regain the lead at 9-6.

The opening set was an instant classic, featuring ten ties and nonstop energy. With the Lady Eagles up 24-21, Arlington stormed back with four straight points to grab a 25-24 lead and set point. But out of a timeout, Kandel delivered back-to-back kills to steal the set 27-25.

Momentum continued in the second set with alternating scoring runs by both sides. After trading early 4-0 spurts, the Lady Eagles finished strong on a 3-0 run to take set two 25-21.

The third set opened with a 5-0 PCC run, but Arlington refused to go away, clawing back to lead 13-12. Despite another Lady Eagles run that gave them a 19-16 advantage, Arlington closed the frame on a 9-2 rally to win 25-21, handing PCC their first loss set in Joplin.

The Lady Eagles regrouped quickly, dominating the start of the fourth set with an 8-2 run that included three kills, two aces, and a block. Arlington again responded and briefly led 13-12, but the Lady Eagles stormed ahead with kills from Kandel, Anderson, and Metzker to take control 21-15. Stephens and Boyd sealed the deal with back-to-back kills, securing the 3-1 victory.

Pool Play Recap:
With a perfect 3-0 record in pool play, the Lady Eagles captured the top spot in Pool B and officially punched their ticket to the Final Four.

Throughout pool play, the Lady Eagles displayed balance across the board. First Team All-American Sydney Anderson led the offense with 41 kills, 4 solo blocks, 7 block assists, and 50.5 points. Lyssie Metzker shined all-around with 37 kills, 43 digs, and 39 points. Madisyn Kandel added 27 kills, 8 aces, 22 digs, and 4 block assists, totaling 37 points. Defensively, libero Hope Brooks anchored the back row with 45 digs and 6 aces.

Setting duties were split evenly and effectively between Allie Whiting (56 assists, 6 kills, 23 digs, 2 block assists) and Olivia Boyd (55 assists, 21 kills, 3 aces, 34 digs), providing exceptional balance and rhythm to the Lady Eagles' offense.

What's Next:
The Lady Eagles advance to the National Semifinal where they'll face a familiar foe, Bob Jones University, for the third time this season. Having earned a 3-2 victory in September and a 3-1 win in the South Region Championship, the Lady Eagles look to make it three straight against the Lady Bruins and secure a spot in the National Championship match.
