Lady Eagles Come Up Short in the National Semifinal

Match Recap:
After completing pool play with an undefeated record, the Lady Eagles took the court in the National Semifinal for the first time since 2021, aiming to reach the National Championship match for the first time in program history. Despite a strong start and winning the opening set, the Lady Eagles were unable to secure another set victory and fell 3-1 in the semifinal.

To open the match, the Lady Eagles came out firing on a 4-0 run fueled by two kills from Kandel and a kill from Anderson. The teams traded points throughout the set and were tied 16-16 before an Allie Whiting kill shifted the momentum. From there, the Lady Eagles controlled the remainder of the set and closed it out 25-17.

Set two mirrored the early stages of the first, with the Lady Eagles jumping ahead 6-2. A quick counter run, however, gave their opponent a 7-6 lead. The remainder of the set was a back-and-forth battle with neither team scoring more than three straight points. In the end, the Lady Eagles were unable to generate the run they needed and fell 25-21.

In sets three and four, the Lady Eagles struggled to regain control. The third set opened tightly at 7-7, but a 10-3 stretch put the Lady Eagles in a 17-10 hole they could not climb out of, dropping the set 25-17. The fourth set was again tightly contested early, and the Lady Eagles held a 17-15 lead. But momentum flipped quickly, and a 10-1 run by their opponent closed the match with a 25-18 result in set four.

Leading the Lady Eagle attack was sophomore Madisyn Kandel, who recorded a match-high 16 kills along with 15 digs and 2 service aces. Metzker added 11 kills and 21 digs. As a team, the Lady Eagles outscored their opponent in total points 59 to 51, kills 46 to 39, service aces 7 to 4, and digs 95 to 85.
