Weekend Preview:
The Eagles Men's Basketball team returns to the court this Friday and Saturday for a pair of tough matchups against NCAA Division III opponents LaGrange College and Huntingdon College. Both games provide meaningful tests as the Eagles look to build momentum heading into the heart of their season.
The weekend opens with LaGrange College, a familiar foe for all Eagles sports. Since the 1990–1991 season, these programs have met 36 times, with the Panthers holding a 21–15 edge in the all-time series. In their most recent meeting last February, the Eagles fell by 10 points, an outcome they'll aim to reverse on Friday night. LaGrange enters the game with a 2–1 record, with its lone loss coming against Millsaps College. The Panthers will arrive at the Nest hungry for a road win, and the Eagles will need to be sharp to defend their home court.
On Saturday, the Eagles will welcome Huntingdon College, another long-standing rival. The series history mirrors Friday's opponent exactly: 15–21 all-time, dating back to 1998. The Eagles' last win over the Hawks came in 2013, making Saturday night a prime opportunity to break the drought. Huntingdon comes into the weekend at 1–2, with its lone victory against Toccoa Falls. Like LaGrange, the Hawks also dropped a game to Millsaps, giving both opponents a similar early-season profile.
Consistency has been the challenge for the Eagles through their first six games, trading wins and losses throughout the opening stretch. This past week, the team faced two high-level exhibition opponents, valuable experience they'll look to apply as they return to regular season action. With two quality NCAA Division III programs coming to town, this weekend presents a chance for the Eagles to reset, compete, and protect the Nest.
Friday night also features Christmas with the Eagles, adding even more excitement to the atmosphere. Fans are encouraged to show up in their best Christmas fits, sweaters, festive colors, and holiday flair. At halftime of the men's game, the best Christmas outfit will win a $50 gift card, so bring the spirit and bring your style!
Eagles fans, your energy always makes a difference, and this weekend is no exception! Tip-off is set for 8:00 PM on Friday and 7:00 PM on Saturday. Pack the Nest, wear your Christmas best on Friday, and cheer on the Eagles!Â
