Balanced Attack Lifts Lady Eagles to 3-0 Win in Pool Play Opener

Match Recap:
Coming off a thrilling weekend hosting and winning the 2025 South Region Tournament, the Lady Eagles took the court in Joplin, MO for the 2025 National Tournament. Opening pool play against the #6-ranked Alice Lloyd College, the Lady Eagles kept the momentum rolling with their 18th sweep of the season.

The opening set featured a tight battle, with neither team leading by more than four points. Statistically, the set was nearly identical for both squads, as each finished with 38 attack attempts, 9 attacking errors, and 2 blocks. The difference came in the Lady Eagles' ability to terminate, recording 14 kills compared to Alice Lloyd's 9. The attack was driven by the trio of Anderson, Metzker, and Kandel, who combined for 13 of the 14 kills in the set (Anderson 5, Metzker 5, Kandel 3). A final kill by Anderson sealed the 25-21 opening-set victory.

In the second set, the Lady Eagles jumped out quickly to a 9-4 lead before Alice Lloyd chipped away and closed the gap to 14-12. An Anderson kill jump-started a key 9-3 scoring run that extended the lead to 23-15, the largest of the set. But at the National Tournament, no lead is safe. Alice Lloyd stormed back with a 7-1 run to tie the set 24-24. In the pressure moments, Anderson delivered another clutch kill to give the Lady Eagles a 25-24 lead, and a Madisyn Kandel service ace secured the 26-24 win.

Regrouping after nearly dropping the second set, the Lady Eagles once again started strong in the third. A fast 10-6 lead turned into a commanding 20-10 advantage after a 10-4 scoring burst sparked by an Olivia Boyd kill. Despite a late push from Alice Lloyd, the Lady Eagles closed out the set 25-19 and completed the 3-0 sweep. The final frame featured balanced attacking, with Boyd and Metzker each posting 3 kills, and Whiting and Anderson adding 2 each.

Throughout the match, Sydney Anderson led the way with 14 kills, 3 block assists, 1 solo block, and 1 service ace. Close behind was Lyssie Metzker with 9 kills, 9 digs, and 1 ace. Setters Olivia Boyd and Allie Whiting combined for 31 assists, 8 kills, and 14 digs in a steady, efficient performance. Kandel rounded out the scoring effort with 5 kills, 1 block assist, and 3 aces.

The Lady Eagles earn the rest of Wednesday off before returning to action tomorrow morning against the #7-ranked Emmaus University at 11:30 am. They will close out pool play later in the day with a 3:30 pm matchup against the #2-ranked Arlington Baptist Patriots.
