Lady Eagles Stay Unbeaten in South Region with Win Over Baptist

Match Recap:
After a gut-wrenching loss to Coastal Alabama last Saturday, the Lady Eagles took the court again looking to regain the spark and fire that fueled their eight-match win streak. Entering the night with a 4-0 record in NCCAA South Region play, the team traveled to Graceville, FL, for the first time in program history, aiming to stay undefeated in the region and claim their first-ever victory in Graceville. In a three-set battle against Baptist University, the Lady Eagles secured their 12th sweep of the season.

The Lady Eagles started strong as Sydney Anderson's two kills and several BUF errors propelled them to an early 5-1 lead. However, a quick rally by BUF evened the score at 9-9. Sparked by a Kandel kill and a Brooks ace, the Lady Eagles went on a 5-0 run to regain momentum. Despite a late push by BUF, an Anderson kill sealed the opening set for the Lady Eagles, 25-22.

The second set opened in a similar yet reversed fashion. BUF jumped out to an early lead before a PCC run, fueled by four BUF errors and a kill from Olivia Boyd, brought the score back to 9-9. The teams continued to trade points, but with the Lady Eagles leading 15-13, they found their rhythm and closed strong. Behind kills from Anderson, Stephens, and three from Metzker, the Lady Eagles finished the set on a dominant 10-5 run to win 25-18, their largest margin of the night.

Despite PCC's momentum, BUF refused to go quietly in the third. They jumped ahead 12-8 and looked to have seized control. But after back-to-back BUF errors and consecutive aces from junior libero Hope Brooks, the Lady Eagles stormed back with a 6-0 run to take a 14-12 lead. BUF responded with three quick points, only for the Lady Eagles to answer right back with three of their own, all off BUF errors. In a back-and-forth finish, the teams were deadlocked at 20-20 before PCC closed the door. Kills from Metzker, Boyd, and the match-winner from Madisyn Kandel powered the Lady Eagles to a 5-2 closing run, taking the final set 25-22 and completing another clean sweep.

The Lady Eagles were led offensively by a balanced attack from Anderson with 13 kills, Metzker with 8, Kandel with 6, and Boyd with 3. Setters Boyd and Whiting combined for 29 assists and 4 kills, while defensively the team was anchored by Hope Brooks, who recorded season highs in both digs (22) and service aces (3). With the win, the Lady Eagles improved to 14-5 overall and a perfect 5-0 in South Region play.

What's Next:
Saturday, the Lady Eagles host Andrew College with the first serve scheduled for 2:00 PM. With a 3-0 record against the Tigers in 2024, the Lady Eagles look to carry that same dominance into their only matchup of the season with Andrew College.
