Lady Eagles Outlast Champion Christian for Statement Home Victory

Game Recap
After a tough road loss to Oakwood University to open the season, the Lady Eagles made their home debut for the 2025–26 campaign against perennial NCCAA powerhouse Champion Christian College. Both programs have finished inside the national top five for five consecutive seasons, setting up an early-season clash between two of the country's elite. In a back-and-forth battle that came down to the wire, it was the Lady Eagles who made the final statement, pulling out a thrilling 65-62 victory inside The Nest.

The opening minute saw both teams start slow, combining for an 0-3 mark from the field and two turnovers. After free throws from Sky Boyd got PCC on the board, Champion responded with two of their own. The first quarter turned into a grind, dominated by fouls and turnovers. The Lady Eagles were whistled for eight fouls and committed nine turnovers, while Champion capitalized by going a perfect 10-10 from the line. Despite that, the Tigers went 0-8 from deep, and PCC kept the deficit close, trailing just 18-16 after one.

The second quarter opened with both teams trading threes before Champion used an 8-0 run to stretch their lead to 10, their largest margin of the night. But the Lady Eagles answered emphatically, exploding for a 12-0 run fueled by four straight triples from Matney, Moilan, Bosher, and Matney again. In just 90 seconds, PCC flipped the deficit into a two-point advantage (31-29). Champion steadied to regain a slim edge before halftime, but a late jumper from Boyd cut the gap to 34-33 at the break. Despite 15 turnovers and shooting just 27% (9-33) from the floor, the Lady Eagles remained within striking distance.

Champion opened the third with a quick 5-0 spurt to go up 39-33, but the Lady Eagles responded again behind Boyd's layup and another Moilan three. Midway through the period, Amy Ahrens calmly sank two free throws to give PCC a 42-41 lead, their first since the second quarter. From there, momentum shifted fully in the Lady Eagles' favor as they closed the quarter on a 10-0 run led by Brooklyn Bosher, who scored five of the ten points during the stretch. With just two turnovers and four fouls in the quarter, PCC had clearly cleaned things up and taken control heading into the final frame.

Early in the fourth, a putback by Amber Dudek steadied the Lady Eagles as they grew their lead to as many as 11 following a 6-0 burst. Champion refused to fade, cutting the margin to two with under three minutes to go after a made and-one. Both teams then hit a scoring drought for nearly two minutes until freshman Autumn Boutwell delivered the dagger, burying a clutch three from the left wing to push PCC ahead 65-60 with 45 seconds remaining. Champion answered with two free throws to trim it back to three, but the Lady Eagles held firm in the closing moments to seal the 65-62 win, their first of the season.

Leading the way was junior forward Sky Boyd, who dominated with 16 points and a career-high 16 rebounds. Freshman guard Autumn Boutwell added 12 points, three assists, and two steals, while junior transfer Brooklyn Bosher nearly notched a double-double with 12 points, seven rebounds, and six assists.
