Lady Eagles Remain Unbeaten at Home with Four Set Win Over Crowley's Ridge

Game Recap:
On the hunt for their eighth straight victory, the Lady Eagles hosted NAIA opponent Crowley's Ridge College on Friday night. After not dropping a set since September 9th against Faulkner, the Eagles felt the sting of losing one early, as the Lady Pioneers stole the opener. But true to form, Pensacola's grit and fight showed once again, as they stormed back to win three straight sets, including a thrilling 26-24 finish in the fourth, to claim a 3-1 match victory.

The Eagles opened strong with a block from Sydney Anderson and Olivia Boyd, followed by a Madisyn Kandel kill, holding the lead until midway through the set. Even after trailing briefly, they regained a 22-21 advantage and looked poised to extend their streak of straight-set wins. But Crowley's Ridge strung together four straight points to take the opener 25-22.

That loss, the first in nearly a month, sparked a response. After falling behind 3-7 in set two, the Eagles went on an 11-4 run fueled by kills from Whiting and Kandel to seize momentum. They built a 17-12 cushion and held off a late rally to even the match with a 25-22 win.

Set three was all about fast starts and clutch finishes. Pensacola raced ahead 14-6 before the Lady Pioneers fought back within one at 20-19. But Kandel and Anderson proved too much, combining for three kills and two blocks in the closing stretch to secure another 25-22 win.

The fourth set was a battle of wills. After Crowley's jumped ahead 8-4, neither side led by more than two the rest of the way. The teams traded points in a marathon stretch featuring 13 ties and 7 lead changes in the closing 35 straight points. With the Eagles up 24-22, Crowley's forced extra points, but a kill from Lyssie Metzker gave Pensacola match point at 25-24. Moments later, Kandel beautifully tooled the block for the match-winning kill, sealing the Eagles' 13th victory of the year.

Statistically, the Eagles were led by Sydney Anderson's season-high 23 kills to go with 6.5 blocks. Metzker posted a double-double with 13 kills and 13 digs, while Olivia Boyd tallied a career-high 30 assists along with 6 kills and 6 digs. Libero Hope Brooks tied her season-high for the third time this year with 21 digs, anchoring the defense.

What's Next:
The Lady Eagles are on the road for the next three matches: Brewton, AL, Montgomery, AL, and Graceville, FL. Matching up against Coastal Alabama, Huntingdon College, and Baptist University. As the Lady Eagles continue to pursue another 20-win season, with ten matches remaining in their 2025 season.
