Lady Eagles’ Winning Streak Snapped on the Road at Coastal Alabama

Game Recap:
After a 3-1 victory over Crowley's Ridge last night, the Lady Eagles hit the road early this morning, heading to Brewton, Alabama, for a matchup against the Coastal Alabama Coyotes. Despite taking the opening set, the Lady Eagles were unable to regain their footing and momentum, dropping the next three sets to fall 1-3 on the road.

To open the match, the Lady Eagles came out firing with a quick 6-0 run, fueled by three kills from Madisyn Kandel in the first six points. Their lead grew to 10-3 before the Coyotes gained momentum and battled back to a 15-16 deficit on a 12-6 scoring run. Coastal eventually took a 20-18 lead, but with a kill from Metzker and three Coyote errors, the Lady Eagles reclaimed control and closed out the first set 25-23.

In the second set, Coastal flipped the script with an 8-3 start. The Lady Eagles weathered the early surge and clawed their way back to even the score at 14-14. Later in the set, Anderson sparked a 6-1 run with four kills, giving the Lady Eagles a 20-18 advantage. However, Coastal rallied once more to take the set 26-24, evening the match at one apiece.

Feeding off the energy of their home crowd and the extra-point win, Coastal dominated the third set, outscoring the Lady Eagles 25-14. The Coyotes tallied 16 kills with only two errors, hitting .341 and carrying all the momentum into the fourth and final set.

The Lady Eagles' grit and resiliency have been the driving factors in their recent eight-match winning streak, often finding themselves down but battling back in their matches. That same resiliency showed again in the fourth set. Despite dropping the previous two sets and falling behind 3-7 early, the Lady Eagles rallied to tie the set 7-7. From there, it became a battle of wills as both teams traded points, with the Lady Eagles trailing narrowly at 16-17. But after a late 5-0 run by the Coyotes, the Lady Eagles could not recover, ultimately falling 1-3 and feeling the sting of defeat for the first time since September 9.

What's Next:
The Lady Eagles will once again be in Alabama on Tuesday to match up with the Huntingdon College Hawks. This is the first match between the two teams since the 2022 season, and the Lady Eagles look for their first victory over Huntingdon since the 2017 season. Then, the Lady Eagles will visit the Baptist University of Florida for their first conference match since September 6th.
