Lady Eagles Remain Undefeated in “The Nest” with Back-to-Back Sweeps of Trinity and Welch

Trinity College of Jacksonville Recap:
Coming into the day riding a five-match win streak and with Senior Day honors for Michaila Kinney and Allie Whiting, losing was not an option for the Lady Eagles in Friday's tri-match. They began the day with a dominant victory over Trinity College of Jacksonville (TCJ) and quickly turned around to complete another sweep over Welch College shortly after.

To open the match against Trinity, the Lady Eagles were propelled early by Sydney Anderson with two kills and a service ace, pushing PCC out to an early 6 to 1 lead. Despite a quick 3 to 0 counter from TCJ, the Lady Eagles maintained control throughout the set. The key to the Lady Eagles' success this season has come from their variety of attacking options. In the opening set, they recorded kills from Anderson, Anna Stephens, Michaila Kinney, Lyssie Metzker, and Olivia Boyd. With that balanced offense, the Lady Eagles cruised to a 25 to 14 first-set win.

The second set started tighter, with PCC holding a narrow 7 to 6 lead before Metzker sparked a 7-0 run that pushed the margin to 14-6 in a flash. Despite a few pushes from TCJ, the Lady Eagles never lost momentum and claimed a 25-16 win to go up 2-0. The third set followed a nearly identical script, with an early 8-3 advantage quickly ballooning after another 7-0 surge to 16-6. PCC finished strong, taking the set 25-14 and locking up their 17th regular season victory and sixth victory in the South Region.

Welch College Recap:
Immediately following the Trinity match, the Lady Eagles had just over an hour to reset before facing Welch College. Despite PCC's dominant win over the Lady Flames earlier in the season on September 27, Welch came out aggressively and tested the Lady Eagles early. PCC jumped ahead with runs of 6-0 and 5-0 to lead 17-9, but Welch would not go quietly, storming back with a 9-2 run to pull within two at 22-20. The Lady Eagles' strength in the middle came through when Stephens and Anderson delivered back-to-back kills, followed by a Stephens and Kandel block to close out the first set 25-21.

After that tight opener, the Lady Eagles locked in, outscoring Welch 50-25 across the next two sets. PCC maintained a steady rhythm in the second set, outpacing Welch nearly three to one behind powerful swings from Anderson and Metzker, who combined for 12 kills with six each in a 25-13 win. The third set featured more dominant runs of 5-0, 7-0, and 6-1 as the Lady Eagles pulled away for their largest margin of the day, winning 25-12 to seal their 16th sweep and 18th victory of the season.

Throughout the tri-match, it was a full team effort. Anderson totaled 22 kills and 3.5 blocks, while Metzker matched her with 22 kills, 6 service aces, and 20 digs. Stephens added 11 kills and 3 blocks. Kandel contributed 14 kills, 24 digs, and 5 aces. Senior Michaila Kinney recorded a season-high 5 kills against TCJ, and fellow senior Allie Whiting tallied 33 assists and 15 digs across the day. Setter Macey Johnson posted a career-high 15 assists versus TCJ, followed by 12 more against Welch. Defensively, junior libero Hope Brooks anchored the back row with 16 and 17 digs in the two matches, totaling 33 in six sets.

With the pair of sweeps, the Lady Eagles improve to 18 and 5 overall, remaining undefeated in both South Region play at 6 and 0 and at home in "The Nest" at 10 and 0.

What's Next:
The Lady Eagles wrap up their regular season home schedule Tuesday against NAIA opponent Faulkner University. After a tough 0-3 loss to Faulkner on September 9, PCC will look to close out strong and avenge that earlier defeat. With only one win in their last 19 meetings, the Lady Eagles are seeking their first home victory over Faulkner since 2002.
