Lady Eagles Finish Perfect at Home, Top Faulkner in Five-Set Thriller

Match Recap:
With five match sweeps in a row, the Lady Eagles stepped on their home court one final time in the 2025 regular season against Faulkner University. Despite the 0-3 loss to Faulkner back in September, the Lady Eagles looked to close the regular season undefeated at home and defeat Faulkner in "The Nest" for the first time since 2002. Jumping out to an early lead, both Eagle squads battled through a five-set thriller, but it was the PCC Eagles who pulled out the 3-2 victory, ending their 2025 regular season 11-0 in The Nest.

Starting off the match on a great note, Olivia Boyd got the Eagles going early with the first kill of the match. That kill sparked an early 6-0 run that set the tone for the opening set. After Faulkner slowed the Eagles' onslaught, the Lady Eagles went on another 7-1 run, sparked by back-to-back kills by Lyssie Metzker, extending their lead 15-5. The Lady Eagles remained composed and confidently closed out the opening set 25-16.

The second set followed a flipped script, with Faulkner scoring first and jumping out to an 8-2 lead in the opening moments. Despite timeout usage and the Lady Eagles' relentless efforts, Faulkner continued to dominate, leading by as many as ten and ultimately taking the set 25-13.

The third set became a true back-and-forth battle with neither team able to create separation. Starting off with an Anderson kill, the teams traded points until the Lady Eagles held an 11-7 advantage midway through. Faulkner clawed back to take a 17-16 lead, but with a kill from Kandel and back-to-back kills by Anderson, the Lady Eagles regained control at 19-17. Following a Faulkner timeout and kill, PCC led 19-18, and on the back of three Faulkner errors, an ace by Boyd, and a kill by Metzker, the Lady Eagles closed the set on a 6-1 run to win 25-19 and take a 2-1 lead in the match.

The excitement was short-lived as Faulkner came out dominant in the fourth set, never allowing PCC to find rhythm. After the teams traded the first six points, 3-3, Faulkner went on a tear, outscoring the Lady Eagles 13-2 to claim a 16-5 lead. The set closed in similar fashion, and Faulkner convincingly won 25-11 to force a fifth and final set.

With the momentum shifting throughout the night, the opening point of the fifth set felt crucial. And as she's done all year, Sydney Anderson came through, killing the first ball of the set and sparking a 5-1 opening run that included kills by Anderson, Boyd, and an ace from Kandel. The Lady Eagles never looked back, holding their lead the rest of the way and never letting Faulkner get closer than two points. Just as the set began, it ended, with Sydney Anderson thundering home the final kill of the night to close out Faulkner and propel the Lady Eagles to their 19th win of the regular season and 11th victory at home.

Tonight, the Lady Eagles' attack was well balanced, with Anderson recording 14 kills and 2.5 blocks, Metzker adding 10 kills and 12 digs, and Kandel contributing 7 kills, 2 aces, and 8 digs. The standout performance came from sophomore Olivia Boyd, who set a new season high with 13 kills, 14 digs, and 17 assists in a 15.5 point performance.

With this win, the 2025 Lady Eagles become the first team in program history to record an undefeated 11-0 home record in the regular season. On top of that, this marks the first time PCC has gone undefeated in NCCAA South Region play (6-0) during the regular season. With their 19th win of the year, the Lady Eagles have tied the most regular-season wins in program history, with two more matches still ahead.

What's Next:
This weekend, the Lady Eagles head to Temple Terrace, Florida, to participate in the final tri-match of the regular season at Florida College. Sharing the court with Florida College and New College of Florida, PCC will close out the regular season on the road before hosting the 2025 NCCAA South Region Tournament, beginning on November 7.
