Lady Eagles Extend Home Dominance with Sweep of USSU

Match Recap:
With one of the best regular seasons in program history nearing its conclusion, the Lady Eagles returned to "The Nest" on Friday night to host the United States Sports University. Entering the match with an undefeated 7-0 home record and having dropped just one set all season on their home floor, the Lady Eagles continued their dominance with another three-set sweep, improving to 16-5 overall, 8-0 at home, and notching their 14th sweep of the season.

The match opened with back-to-back kills from Sydney Anderson as the Lady Eagles set the tone early. However, USSU quickly responded, capitalizing on a few miscues to grab an 11-7 lead. After trimming the deficit to 11-12, a timeout and key substitutions sparked the Lady Eagles' offense. They closed the opening set on a commanding 14-4 run to win 25-16.

Riding that momentum, the Lady Eagles came out firing in the second set. A 13-4 start set the tone for what became one of their most efficient frames of the season. Hitting .343 as a team with 14 kills on 35 attempts, the Lady Eagles also tallied three service aces and three blocks in a dominant 25-10 win. Anderson (7 kills), Lyssie Metzker (4 kills), and Anna Stephens (3 kills) led a balanced offensive attack.

The third set mirrored the early dominance of the second, with PCC jumping out to a 12-6 advantage as eight of those points came from USSU errors. The visitors steadied their play and went on a 6-0 run to tie things up at 12-12, but the Lady Eagles refused to relinquish control. Holding a slim 16-15 edge, PCC used a late surge highlighted by kills from Allie Whiting, Karissa Crumly, and Madisyn Kandel along with an ace from Hope Brooks to pull away. Anderson capped the night with two final kills, sealing the 25-18 win and another sweep at home.

Anderson, Metzker, and Stephens combined for 29 kills on 52 attempts to lead the Lady Eagles' offense. But it was the team's depth that made the difference. Macey Johnson recorded a career-high 12 assists, while Crumly added a block solo, a block assist, and a kill as PCC once again showcased its all-around dominance.

The Lady Eagles have now won 11 of their last 12 matches, staying red-hot as the postseason quickly approaches.

What's Next:
The Lady Eagles return to "The Nest" next Friday for their final home tri-match of the season, hosting Trinity College of Jacksonville and Welch College. Before the 3:30 p.m. opening serve against Trinity, PCC will honor seniors Michaila Kinney and Allie Whiting for Senior Day. Come out to celebrate the seniors and cheer the Lady Eagles toward two more home victories!
