Lady Eagles Gut Out the Win Over Toccoa Falls

Game Recap:
After winning their first region game on Tuesday against Trinity Baptist, the Lady Eagles were looking to secure their second region win over Toccoa Falls tonight on the road. The last time these two teams met was in the 2024 National Semi-Finals, where Toccoa Falls defeated the Lady Eagles. So, the Lady Eagles were determined to come out and get the win tonight on the road. The first half started slow as the Lady Eagles found themselves down 35-27 at halftime. However, they picked it up in the fourth quarter and went on to win 66-60 for a huge road South Region victory against this strong Toccoa Falls team.
 
The Screaming Eagles from Tocco Falls came out strong, going on a 4-point run to start the game. Kristin Mentzer got the Lady Eagles on the scoreboard with a jumper. The Screaming Eagles continued their momentum, going up 14-5. Abigail Winslow was able to stop the bleeding with a quick layup. The score at the end of the first quarter was 17-9, with Toccoa Falls maintaining the lead. In the second quarter, Mellany Bowser got the Lady Eagles started with back-to-back 3-pointers. The threes cut into the Screaming Eagles' lead, with Toccoa Falls now leading 19-15. The rest of the half went back and forth, with both teams scoring 18 points each. Mellany Bowser led the Lady Eagles with 7 points going into halftime. The score going into half was 35-27 with the Lady Eagles down 8 points.
 
After the break, Sky Boyd opened the third quarter with a jumper for the Lady Eagles, followed by a layup from Abigail Winslow. The Lady Eagles battled back in this quarter, winning the period 16-9 and cutting the deficit to 44-43, with the Lady Eagles down by just one point going into the final period. To start the fourth quarter, Amy Ahrens scored a free throw and a quick layup to give the Lady Eagles their first lead of the game, 46-44. The Lady Eagles then went on an 8-0 run, with Amy Ahrens scoring 6 of the 8 points. This extended their lead to 56-49, giving the Lady Eagles their biggest lead of the game. The rest of the quarter was a battle, as the Screaming Eagles brought the score within 3 points with 35 seconds left in the game. After a foul by Toccoa Falls, Kristin Mentzer went to the line and hit both free throws to grow the lead to five points. The Lady Eagles went on to win the game 66-60.
 
Offensively, Amy Ahrens, coming off the bench, led the Lady Eagles with 13 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 steals. Followed by Abigail Winslow, who scored 12 points, with 3 assists and 2 rebounds. Mellany Bowser also came off the bench, providing a much needed spark in the game, scoring 11 points while shooting 3-6 from the field.
 

What's Next:
The Lady Eagles' next game is their final game of the week, and it will be on the road against South Region rival Bob Jones University. This highly anticipated matchup is scheduled for tomorrow, January 14th, with tip-off at 4:00 PM. The Lady Eagles are hoping to close out the week with a 3-0 record.
