Eagles Fall to Point Universtiy for the First Home Loss of the Season

Game Recap:
After a dominating home performance last weekend, the Eagles had four days to prepare for the Point University Skyhawks. After two early goals and a clean sheet at the half, the Eagles thought they had win number four secured. Unfortunately, the Skyhawks were able to score three goals in the final 25 minutes of the match and steal the victory right out of the Eagle's hands.

Early, the Skyhawks put senior goalkeeper Bryce Hammond on his toes with a shot on goal resulting in the first of ten saves for Hammond coming in the first 67 seconds of play. Once the Eagles settled in, about twelve minutes into the match they got their first shot attempts. With just over twenty minutes elapsed, senior Dakotah Barchus saw an opening and pulled the trigger from nearly thirty yards out, and rifled it into the top corner! With his first goal since the opening match of the season, Barchus gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead. As the half progressed, Coach Liwosz subbed in junior defender, Chris Martinez just six minutes following the substitution, Martinez found an open opportunity off a Mateo Loyola corner kick… he did not miss his chance! Netting the first goal of his career Martinez gave the Eagles a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.

After the break, Point came out swinging with 3 shot attempts in the first two minutes of play. However, the major scare came with in the 52nd minute when Point found themselves with a PK opportunity to bring the deficit to just one goal… Hammond had other plans. Diving to his right, Hammond made the PK save with the help of his friend, the goalpost. In the 66th minute, the Skyhawks found the back of the net for the first time in the match and immediately the momentum began to shift. With just 24 minutes remaining, Point felt desperation and the Eagles felt the weight of a 2-1 lead. Seven minutes later, Point scored another goal and tied the match 2-2 with 17 minutes left on the clock. With momentum now leaning toward the Skyhawks, Point found the final piece of the comeback. With a shot from nearly the same location as Dakotah's 21st-minute goal the Skyhawks had the lead, and ultimately the victory. Despite the Eagles attempts in the final minutes, they fell 3-2 to the Point University Skyhawks.
