Eagles Battle Out the Win Over LaGrange College

Game Recap:
After a tough loss to Middle Georgia State last Saturday, the Eagles had a week to regroup and refine their game in preparation for the LaGrange College Panthers. Going on the road for the third straight match, the Eagles came in ready to go but riddled with injuries. However, after 90 minutes of play, the Eagles emerged victorious with their second win of the season.

Due to various injuries, the Eagles played tonight's game without their starting goalkeeper Bryce Hammond and starting center-back Boaz DaSilva. But when the whistle blows and the match begins, all that matters is who's on the field. Stepping into goal was freshman Josh Chandler for the first start of his Eagles goalkeeping career. Another freshman getting the first start of his career was Louis Vincent. Starting the game as a striker, Vincent made his presence known in the first 20 minutes of the match by scoring not only the opening goal of the game but also the first goal of his collegiate career. Just thirty seconds after the Eagles took the 1-0 lead the Panthers answered with a goal of their own to tie the match 1-1. With neither team able to net their second goal, the teams went into halftime.

After twelve minutes passed in the second half, Eagles striker Niwe Mugeni scored his first goal of the season and his 10th career goal. Trailing 2-1, the Panthers once again countered with another game-tying goal just 10 minutes later. As the clock neared 10 minutes remaining senior striker Lourenco Goncalves scored the game-winning goal with just 11 minutes left in the match. Commanding a 3-2 lead, the Eagles were able to hold off a game-tying goal from the Panthers for the remainder of the match and win their second match of the season. All three Eagle goals tonight were the first goal of the season for Vincent, Mugeni, and Goncalves… bringing the season total up to 5 goals coming from 5 different players.

What's Next:
Next Saturday, the Eagles make their home debut against South Region opponent Toccoa Falls College at 10:00 am. Averaging 4.9 goals/game against Toccoa, the Eagles will work to give Eagle fans a show on Eagle Field during their first home match in 2024.
