Eagles Open the 2024 Season with the W

Game Recap:
To open the 2024 season, the Eagles started against NAIA opponent Johnson University of TN. After a back-and-forth start to the game with both teams getting shots on goal, the Eagles struck first. With the first game of the season now being completed, the Eagles' first win of the season is official!

Over the first six minutes of play, there was not a shot taken… patience and discipline would be the key factors in tonight's win. After both teams got a few shots on goal, coming off a sideline throw-in, it was the junior striker Reid Rhodes who chipped his shot over the outstretched goalkeeper to score the first goal of the game and the first goal of the Eagles' 2024 season. With a 1-0 in the 32nd minute, the Eagles continued to battle their way into halftime holding the 1-0 lead. After the kickoff to start the second half not even four minutes passed before the Eagles struck once again. After a penalty was called just outside the box, Dakotah Barchus stepped up and drove the ball to the bottom right corner off the free-kick. With this goal, the Eagles held a 2-0 lead coming off the seniors' first goal of the season. After nearly eighty minutes, the Eagles had held the Royals to no goals scored… but in the 78th minute, the Royals brought the score back to just a 2-1 deficit with a header coming from a corner kick. With only 12 minutes remaining, the Eagles used their discipline and poise to hold off the Royals and claim their first win of the season. While this game was a true physical battle, including 33 fouls and 6 yellow cards, the Eagles were able to remain in control and close game one of the season with a huge win!

What's Next:
Saturday, the Eagles remain on the road to face Middle Georgia State University in Cochran, GA. With only one meeting in the past seasons, resulting in a double-overtime tie, the Eagles and Knights are set to collide on the pitch at 2:00 PM!
