Lady Eagles Win Big Against Newly Ranked #1 Team in the Country

Game Recap:
After a big win against Welch last Monday, the Lady Eagles returned from their Thanksgiving break eager to secure their first-ever victory over Champion Christian College. This marked the second meeting between the two teams this season, with their first encounter ending in a close 80-86 loss. However, the Lady Eagles came out strong, defeating Champion Christian College 87-64 for the first time in program history.

The game began with the Tigers jumping out to a 7-0 lead, but the Lady Eagles quickly responded with a 5-0 run, cutting the deficit to 7-5 after a timeout by Coach Sellars. The first quarter was a back-and-forth battle, with Alissa Brewer finishing it off with a layup to give the Lady Eagles a 20-16 lead. The two teams continued to trade baskets to start the second quarter. Then, the Lady Eagles went on a 9-0 run, capped off by a three-pointer by Abby Matney. From there, they never looked back, entering halftime with a commanding 48-31 lead, with Amy Ahrens leading all scorers with 15 points.

After the break, Sky Boyd opened the scoring for the Lady Eagles with a two-point jumper. The Tigers, determined to fight back, responded with a 7-0 run. However, the Lady Eagles answered with a 6-0 run of their own, keeping the momentum on their side. As the third quarter came to a close, a layup by Sky Boyd put the Lady Eagles up 72-51. The Tigers started the fourth quarter with a few free throws, but the Lady Eagles quickly responded with a 6-0 run. Despite their best efforts, the Tigers couldn't close the gap, and the Lady Eagles finished strong, securing their first-ever victory over Champion Christian College with a final score of 87-64.

Offensively, Sky Boyd led the Lady Eagles with 25 points, 12 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals. Followed by Amy Ahrens coming off the bench contributing 21 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals. Redshirt freshman Abby Matney recorded another double-digit performance with 12 points on 4-7 shooting from behind the arc. Nearly recording a double-double, senior Kristin Mentzer recorded 9 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 rebounds. In total, the Lady Eagles had 9 players who contributed to the scoring in this huge win.
