Lady Eagles Win Their Second Matchup of the Season Against SUNO

Game Recap:
After a big win earlier this week against Champion Christian College, the Lady Eagles were determined to head into Christmas break with another strong win. This game marked their second matchup of the season against Southern University of New Orleans, having previously fallen 72-83 at SUNO. This time, the Lady Eagles pulled off a big win at home, securing a 75-70 victory to build momentum heading into the Christmas break.

The game started off close, with both teams exchanging baskets throughout the 1st quarter. Mellany Bowser drained a three-pointer to close out the 1st quarter, giving the Lady Eagles an 18-14 lead. Alissa Brewer kicked off the 2nd quarter with a two-point jumper, but the Knights answered with a 7-0 run to take a 21-20 lead. The rest of the quarter went back-and-forth scoring, with the Lady Eagles heading into halftime with a 38-34 lead, thanks to Abby Matney and Sky Boyd, who both contributed 8 points.

After the break, the Knights came out strong, scoring the first 4 points to tie the game 38-38. The Lady Eagles responded quickly, with 4 points of their own, capped off by a layup from Alissa Brewer. The teams continued to exchange baskets, and Lydia Adams scored the final 4 points of the 3rd quarter to give the Lady Eagles a 53-48 lead heading into the final period. To start the fourth, the Knights went on an 8-0 run to take a 56-53 lead. Sky Boyd responded immediately, converting an and-one layup to tie the game at 56-56. The back-and-forth scoring continued until the final 14 seconds, with the Lady Eagles leading by one. Sky Boyd hit a spin move and completed another and-one layup, extending the lead to four and sealing the victory for the Lady Eagles. They went on to win 75-70.

Offensively, Sky Boyd led the Lady Eagles with 20 points, 8 rebounds, 1 assists, and 1 steal. Followed by the senior Kristin Mentzer with 13 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. In total, the Lady Eagles 10 players who contributed to the scoring in this all-around big win.


What's Next:
The Lady Eagles next game is against Faulkner University after Christmas break on January 7th , with a tip-off scheduled for 6:00 p.m. This game will be an exhibition game for our Lady Eagles.
