Eagles Get Outscored in the Second Half and Lose to Champion Christian

Game Recap:
After a tough loss before the Thanksgiving break, the Eagles returned to Pensacola with two games remaining before Christmas. Their first opponent was Champion Christian College. Having never played the Tigers before this season, the Eagles were eager to seek revenge after their defeat in Arkansas back in early November. The first half was a back-and-forth battle, but the Tigers came out strong after halftime, pulling away to secure a 95-71 victory.

In the opening half, the two teams exchanged the lead ten times, with neither able to build a lead larger than seven points. It was a high-scoring and tightly contested first half. The Eagles' leading scorer this season, Liam Gerdts, had a stellar 14 points in the first half, shooting 5-8 from the field and 4-4 from the free-throw line. As a team, the Eagles shot an impressive 64% from the field, finishing with 41 points, their third-highest total of the season. Despite their strong performance, the Tigers closed the half with an 8-2 run, narrowing the Eagles' lead to just one point (41-40).

The second half began with the Tigers on fire, opening with a 12-0 run in the first four minutes. Josh Azucena halted the run with 6 consecutive points and was the only Eagle to score in the first seven minutes of the half. After holding a one-point lead at halftime, the Eagles now found themselves trailing by 16 points with just over seven minutes left. Despite the Eagles' effort to narrow the scoring margin and close the gap, Champion held off the Eagles to claim a 95-71 victory.
