Lady Eagles Fall to SUNO on the Road

Game Recap:
After splitting a pair of games over the weekend in Tennessee and Kentucky, the Lady Eagles aimed to get back in the win column against Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO). Despite a strong effort throughout the game, the Lady Eagles ultimately fell short, losing to the Knights 72-83.

The game started with SUNO jumping to an early 6-0 lead, but the Lady Eagles quickly regrouped and tied the score at 10-10 midway through the first quarter. SUNO finished the quarter strong, however, ending on a 10-5 run to lead 20-15 at the break. The Lady Eagles fought back in the second, getting contributions from six different players, which helped them even the quarter at 20-20. Unfortunately, 9 turnovers by the Lady Eagles allowed 9 points off turnovers for SUNO, giving the Knights a 40-35 lead at halftime.

Coming out of the break, SUNO opened the third quarter with an 8-3 run, extending their lead. But the Lady Eagles continued to battle, maintaining a high level of intensity and physicality throughout the contest. Their hard work on the boards, where they out-rebounded SUNO 16-8 in the third, kept them in the game, and they entered the final period down just 52-62. Despite shooting 8-17 from the field and Sky Boyd scoring 11 points in the fourth, the Lady Eagles couldn't complete the comeback, falling 72-83 to SUNO. In the loss, strong performances from Boyd (23p & 10r), Winslow (18p, 6r, 5a, & 5s), Ahrens (10p & 5r), and Brewer (5p, 10r, &4a) helped keep the Lady Eagles in the fight throughout the whole game.

As a team, the Lady Eagles finished 28-66 (42%) from the field and 11-17 from the FT line. However, their struggles from beyond the arc (5-29, 17%) and a high turnover count (25 turnovers) ultimately contributed to the loss. Despite outscoring SUNO in points off turnovers, 2nd chance points, points in the paint, and fast break points, the Lady Eagles' third loss of the season proved to be another learning opportunity for this young team.

What's Next:
Saturday, the Lady Eagles will be in Lookout Mountain, GA to face Covenant College for the first time since the 2012 season. The current historical record stands at 1-1 right now, and the Lady Eagles hope to take the historical advantage over the Scots.
