Eagles Win Overtime Thriller Against Trinity College

Game Recap:
In a thrilling overtime showdown featuring 12 lead changes, the Eagles and Tigers battled fiercely for 45 minutes. The Eagles once enjoyed an eight-point lead, while the Tigers briefly held a six-point advantage, but neither team ever led by double digits. A dramatic buzzer-beater by Trinity sent the game into overtime, yet it was the Eagles who secured a hard-fought 87-82 victory. This win marks the first time since 1999 that the Eagles have started their regular season with a perfect 2-0 record.

As the first half unfolded, scoring was well-distributed among both teams and players. Just six minutes in, Aaron Wagner ignited a six-point surge, reaching a game-high 12 points at that moment. The Eagles effectively rotated through their lineup, featuring 11 players on the court while maintaining a narrow lead. This depth proved crucial for the extended battle ahead. By halftime, the Eagles held a slim 36-35 edge over the Tigers, thanks to a clutch bucket from Josh Azucena in the final seconds.

The second half commenced with the Eagles surging on a 7-0 run, establishing their largest lead of the game at eight points. However, following a Trinity timeout, the Tigers quickly responded with a 5-0 run, closing the gap to just three points. In the final ten minutes, Trinity fought back from the deficit to take the lead in the closing moments. But timely shots from Koske and Pack, along with a free throw by Gerdts, allowed the Eagles to reclaim a three-point advantage with just 2.3 seconds remaining. With a last-second three-pointer from the top of the key, the game headed to overtime.

Overtime began with both teams exchanging baskets and neither team willing to back down. But as a team, the Eagles shot 3/4 from the field and 7/8 from the FT line propelling their offense through the overtime period. But the Eagles' defense was also on point, holding Trinity College scoreless for the final 1:40, enabling the Eagles to clinch the 87-82 overtime victory.

What's Next:
Tomorrow night, the Eagles will face Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College for the first time. After two games in one week, the team will need to rest and prepare for the challenge ahead against the Golden Stallions.
