Lady Eagles Win Big in Home Opener

Game Recap:
With seven newcomers, the Lady Eagles took to "The Nest" for their first outing of the 2024-2025 season. After a strong start in the opening quarter, the Lady Eagles built an early lead that they never relinquished. With 11 different players contributing to the scoring, the Lady Eagles triumphed 75-55 against the Dallas Christian Crusaders.

After falling behind 8-6 early on, the Lady Eagles rallied with a 13-3 run midway through the first quarter, seizing momentum that carried them through the game. Freshman Abigail Winslow led the charge with 9 points in the first quarter, while senior Mellany Bowser added a crucial 5 points off the bench, giving the Lady Eagles a commanding 26-14 lead by the end of the first quarter. As the second quarter unfolded, sophomore Gracee Bieber emerged as another key contributor off the bench, scoring 8 points on perfect shooting and grabbing 3 rebounds in just six minutes. Thanks to this bench boost, PCC held a 43-29 advantage at halftime.

Throughout the second half, the Lady Eagles maintained a steady lead, which fluctuated between 12 and 23 points. Defensively, they were relentless, forcing Dallas Christian into 39 turnovers and racking up 22 steals. Neither team managed to shoot above 38% from the field, and with a combined total of 60 turnovers, it was a night focused on defense. The Lady Eagles' bench made a significant impact, contributing 43 points, with three of the top six scorers coming from the reserves. Gracee Bieber achieved a career-high 16 points on 8-10 shooting, along with 6 rebounds and 2 steals. Although Kristin Mentzer didn't score, she led the game with 6 steals in her 21 minutes on the floor. Nearly achieving her second double-double in as many games, Alissa Brewer threw in 9 points and 10 assists in the first home game of the season. While the offensive performance wasn't ideal, there are valuable lessons ahead for this young team at the start of their season.

What's Next:
Tomorrow night, the Lady Eagles will match up with Trinity College of Florida at 5:30 PM. With a 14-0 record against the Tigers, the Lady Eagles look to keep a clean sheet in Friday night's game.
