Lady Eagles Go 1-1 in Senior Night Tri Match

Game Recap:
Today was senior day for the Lady Eagles volleyball team, honoring Grace Loo and Allie Whiting before their 7:00 PM match. Before the celebration began, the Lady Eagles had to face Clinton College, followed by Welch College. After a grueling 5-set loss to Clinton, the Lady Eagles celebrated the seniors, then put on a great performance and defeated Welch College 3-1 to move their record to 18-10.

Previously defeating Clinton College on October 19th in 5 sets, the Lady Eagles hoped for the same outcome at home. With a true battle, the Lady Eagles fell 22-25 in the first set but quickly bounced back winning sets two and three (25-19, 25-23). After this, both teams knew it would be a battle to the end. Dropping the fourth set to the Bears 22-25, the teams met once again in a fifth set. Pulling out a narrow victory, the Bears were able to pull off the road upset against the Lady Eagles, taking the fifth set 15-13. Offensively, the Lady Eagles were led by freshman Sydney Anderson with 19 kills and 5 blocks through the five sets. But it was sophomore Helen Payton who broke her own previously set record with 62 assists in the match! Although the Lady Eagles fell short, they had a couple hours to recover before facing the Welch College Lady Flames.

To open against the Lady Flames, the Lady Eagles went on a tear through the first two sets. Outscoring Welch 50-29 in the two sets combined. With Welch going on two separate 5-0 runs throughout the third set, they were able to pull out the victory with a 26-24 win over the Lady Eagles. Although Welch came into set four with an early 7-2 lead, the Lady Eagles outscored them 23-11 in the closing 34 points of the set. Once again, it was the freshman Sydney Anderson leading the charge from the front row to go along with 4 block, Anderson recorded 23 kills on just 29 attempts, setting a new career-high .793 hitting percentage. With a 3-1 victory over the Lady Flames, the Lady Eagles improved to 18-10 with only two regular-season games remaining.
