Lady Eagles Defeat Faulkner for the First Time in Program History

Game Recap:
The Lady Eagles stepped onto the court today with their sights set on building momentum as they prepare for regionals next week. Facing Faulkner for the eighth time in program history, the Lady Eagles were eager to secure their first victory against this NAIA opponent. With an 18-10 record, they aimed to achieve their 19th win of the season for the first time since 2017—and they accomplished that goal, emerging victorious in a thrilling five-set battle against Faulkner.

After a 1-3 loss to Faulkner earlier this season, the Lady Eagles knew they were in for a tough fight. Determined to change the narrative, they surged into the first set with Hope Brooks serving ten consecutive points, leading to a decisive 25-15 win. In the second set, Faulkner faced a 17-20 deficit but rallied with an impressive 8-0 run, taking the set 25-20. The third set saw Faulkner start strong with a 3-1 lead, but the Lady Eagles, powered by three consecutive kills from Olivia Boyd, turned the tide to lead 4-3. With a solid 16-10 advantage midway through the set, the Lady Eagles maintained their composure and clinched the third set 25-20 despite Faulkner's attempts to fight back.

The fourth set proved to be the most competitive, featuring six lead changes as the Lady Eagles sought to close out the match while Faulkner aimed to extend it to a fifth. Holding a 17-13 lead, the Lady Eagles seemed poised for victory, but Faulkner executed a late 13-7 run, stealing the fourth set 26-24, even after the Lady Eagles held a match point at 24-23. With the match tied, the Lady Eagles knew the fifth set was crucial. Having played six five-set matches this season but winning only two, they focused on securing this final set. Trailing 14-15, the Lady Eagles rose to the occasion. With three consecutive points from a kill and a service ace by Lyssie Metzker, followed by a kill from Megan Kinsey, the Lady Eagles defeated Faulkner in the fifth set 17-15 and ultimately secured the match 3-2.

What's Next:
Saturday, the Lady Eagles head to Mount Vernon, GA to match up against Brewton-Parker College for the final match of the 2024 regular season. With the previous match against Brewton-Parker being canceled earlier in the season, the Lady Eagles and the Barons are ready for this final showdown of the season.
