On February 9, the Eagles faced South Region opponent the Southeastern Baptist Chargers. The Eagles were coming off a big win against Trinity Baptist College and were now looking for their third straight South Region win.
The game was a battle from the beginning. The Eagles scored on their first possession, but two minutes passed before they were able to score again and take a 4–0 lead. The Chargers responded and gained the lead. The lead went back and forth between the two teams over the remainder of the half changing a total of twelve times. The Eagles finished the half with a 38–36 lead.
The Eagles came out on fire in the second half.
AJ Ward and
Austin Lewis each made a 3-pointer to give the Eagles an 8-point lead. Within the first five minutes, the Eagles lengthened their lead to thirteen points. The Eagles remained at least 10 points ahead of the Chargers until 6 minutes remained. Around the 6-minute mark, the Eagles allowed a 3-14 run by the Chargers to put the Eagles down 1 point.
The final minute of the game brought excitement and suspense to the entire arena. Down by 1 point,
John Clay drove to the basket where he was fouled on a shot. A few seconds after the foul was called, a technical foul was called on the Chargers coach giving the Eagles four free throw attempts.
Austin Lewis stepped to the line and drained both of the technical foul free throws putting the Eagles up 1 point.
John Clay was now at the line to shoot for the foul called earlier. He went one for two at the line to give the Eagles a 2-point lead. Southeastern did not give up easily as they quickly scored to tie the game. There was now 5.8 seconds remaining.
Austin Lewis inbounded the ball but the Chargers tipped it away, taking .4 seconds off the clock.
Christian Porter would now inbound the ball. He passed it in to
Mike Discher who was just past the half court line. Discher dribbled the ball to the lane and passed it off to an open
Austin Lewis on the base line. Lewis took the shot and the whole arena erupted in celebration as the they watched the ball soar through the net. There was still .4 seconds left in the game. The Chargers tried to score but were unable to, giving the Eagles the 75–73.
Austin Lewis led the team with 19 points.
AJ Ward added 15 points. Together the team shot 11 of 13 from the free throw line.
