Eagles Win 4th Straight Region Game on Senior Night

On February 12, the Eagles faced Trinity College of Florida for the second time this season. Their previous match-up had been a close game. The Eagles escaped with a 78–75 win. Now, they hoped that the excitement of the night would help them beat the Tigers again. The game was not only the last home game of the season but also Senior Night. There were three seniors on the Eagles that would be honored before starting line-ups. John Clay, James Shodimu, and Brian Ugalde walked out to center court for a moment of recognition. Then, the game began.

The Eagles started out strong going on an 11–2 run to start the game. However, two quick baskets by the Tigers brought the game within four points. A little under the 10-minute mark, the Eagles now led 13–9. The Eagles continued to fight lengthening their lead to 10 points. However, the Eagles would not maintain their large lead. Within a few minutes, their lead dropped to 3 points. The Eagles were able to score the last bucket of the half to put them ahead 26–21.

It appeared as though the Eagles would not be able to stay ahead as they started off the second by allowing tow buckets by the Tigers, but a 3-pointer by Austin Lewis started a 9–0 run by the Eagles. The Eagles stayed strong, reaching a lead of 12-points. Their lead dropped to 7 points around the 7-minute mark but the Eagles persevered and quickly jumped to an 11-point lead. The Eagles finished with a 67-53 win over the Tigers.

This was the Eagles fourth straight South Region win and the first time this season the Eagles had sustained the lead the entire game. Ten players combined for 44 rebounds while eleven players scored. AJ Ward put together a double-double to lead the team in both points and rebounds.
