On January 5, the Eagles returned to the court after a two-and-a-half-week break. Their first match-up of the interterm schedule was against NAIA opponent, Crowley's Ridge College Pioneers. The Eagles had played the Pioneers earlier in the season and had lost 61–88. The Eagles knew it would be difficult to beat the Pioneers in the rematch, but were determined to rise to the challenge.
Three buckets with assists by
Austin Lewis and a pair of free throws from
AJ Ward led to a strong start and an early lead for the Eagles. The Eagles continued playing strong, stretching the gap between scores to 9 points within six minutes of the first half. The Eagles held their lead for the next few minutes, but the Pioneers were slowly catching up. Around the nine-minute mark, the Eagles lead dropped to 1 point. However, the Eagles rose to the occasion. By the end of the first half, the Eagles had scored their season high in first half points, 40, and were leading by 7 points.
AJ Ward was leading the team in points with 11 and
Anthony Horton was leading the team in rebounds with 6.
The second half brought many high and low moments for the Eagles. The first few minutes brought low moments, as turnovers and second chance opportunities plagued both teams and caused the Eagles lead to drop to 2. Around the sixteen-minute mark, a 4-point conversion by
Christian Porter sparked the needed momentum for the Eagles. Within a few minutes, the Eagles had regained their 7-point lead, but the lead would not last. Fouls for the Eagles caused the Pioneers to quickly catch up. With six minutes left in the game, a made 3-pointer by Crowley's Ridge caused the Eagles to lose their lead. With two minutes left Crowley's Ridge led by 9 points, but the Eagles went to work and brought it back within 2. The Eagles 11–4 scoring run would prove to not be enough for the win. They lost 70–72.
The Eagles next game is Thursday, January 7, against Edward Waters College.
