Pressure by Point University Dooms Eagles in Second Half

The Eagles stepped off the bus in West Point, GA and were ready to play in the first half as the team executed some strong offense both inside and outside and were stingy on defense holding a 46-43 halftime lead.  Junior John Clay and Senior Coty Pratt led the way in the first half with 13 and 12 points.  Deric Woods (FR) also was strong defensively against Points size.

But the second half was a different story as the more experienced Skyhawks (7-2) increased the intensity pressuring the Eagles (2-7) into numerous hurried shots allowing the home team the opportunity to really push their fast break.  The Skyhawks knocked down several threes, got to the basket on dribble drive, and crashed the offensive boards hard.  The Skyhawks were led by Corey Bowen's 20 points and 7 rebounds.

The Eagles continued to play with great intensity and were led by Clay's 17 points and 4 assists.  Coty Pratt had his best game of the young season scoring 14 points and securing a team high 7 rebounds.  Eric Evans had 13 points, and Deric Woods added 12 points.  "We played with good energy tonight but it was energy that lacked focus both offensively to execute in pressure situations and defensively in understanding how to take certain things away from the fast, attacking Skyhawks," commented Mark Goetsch following the game.

The Eagles are right back at it again tomorrow traveling north in Georgia to Rome where the Eagles tip off at 7:00 PM EST time against the Shorter University Hawks led by former PCC Eagle and graduate Wade Anderson.
