Pensacola, FL — The Lady Eagles finished with a season-high 94 points in their 94-46 victory over Judson College. Lady Eagles forward
Claire Jordan stepped up off the bench to secure a double-double with a 10-point and 11-rebound performance.
The Lady Eagles came out firing on all cylinders in the opening minutes of last night's victory over Judson College. Junior guard
Joy Smith helped the Lady Eagles take control early on. Two three pointers from the corner helped the team jump out to an early 9-0 lead over Judson College. Despite back-to-back three pointers by Judson College guard Madison Casale that cut the lead to just 3 points, the Lady Eagles were able to regain control of the game and did not look back. Led by
Claire Jordan and
Jessica Boyd, the Lady Eagles would go on a 18-3 run to close out the quarter and headed to the 2nd quarter leading 27-9.
In the 2nd quarter, the Lady Eagles picked up right where they had left off. Five early points by both
Joy Smith and
Jessica Boyd helped the Lady Eagles balloon their lead to 25 midway through the quarter. With a 25 point lead, Head Coach
Jared Sellars subbed in some of his up-and-coming freshman
Elise Cauthen and
Hope Baker. The move would pay immediate dividends as the two freshman hit consecutive three pointers to widen the Lady Eagles lead to 30. The Lady Eagles would head into the locker room at the half leading 50-19 after an impressive 1st half performance. In the half, the Lady Eagles shot 39% from the floor compared to just 20% for Judson College.
At the half, Head Coach
Jared Sellars was extremely pleased with his team's performance. "We shot the ball really well in the half and got some great contributions from our bench. Definitely a great team performance in the 1st half."
In the 3rd quarter, Judson College was able to hold the Lady Eagles to their lowest scoring quarter while adding several key buckets of their own. The Lady Eagles relied on their bigs –
Claire Jordan,
Marlee Moore,
Grace Imdieke, and
Hannah Sailors – in the 3rd quarter. The group would score 14 of the Lady Eagles 23 points in the quarter. Despite a better performance early in the quarter, Judson College was unable to put a dent in the Lady Eagles commanding lead.
Heading into the 4th quarter, the Lady Eagles led by 39 points. Sitting just 14 points off their season-high and within 20 points of the all-time record, the Lady Eagles hoped to put together another strong quarter. It was
Jared Sellars' bench that would shoulder the load in the final quarter, scoring 20 of the teams 22 points. Center
Marra McCauley would add 6 points in the final quarter while
Tiffany Dover came off the bench to score 8 of her own. The Lady Eagles would go on to defeat Judson College by a final score of 94-46. The 94 points were a season-high for the Lady Eagles and was just 1 point shy of the all-time scoring record of 95.
In the ball game, the Lady Eagles shot a blistering 43% on 37 of 86 shooting. The team also had one of their best 3-point shooting performances of the season, going 7-22 from behind the three-point arch. The team finished the night with an all-time record of 76 rebounds in the ball game. In the matchup,
Joy Smith led the Lady Eagles with 13 points and was joined by
Claire Jordan and
Hope Baker in double figures.
Claire Jordan secured her 1st career double-double with a 10-point and 11 rebound performance.
After the game,
Jared Sellars spoke glowingly of his team's performance. He said, "We executed our game plan to perfection. We wanted to keep the ball moving throughout the game. Give credit to Judson for playing hard for 40 minutes. We played well tonight, but we will continue working to get better."
With the win, the Lady Eagles moved to two games over .500 at 12-10 on the season. The Lady Eagles next game will be a conference matchup against Trinity Baptist College in the Arlin R.
