Pensacola, FL — The Lady Eagles scored early and often in their 69-37 victory over conference rival Trinity Baptist College.
Jessica Boyd finished with 15 points and 5 rebounds to lead the Lady Eagles.
The Lady Eagles again jumped out to an early lead in last night's ball game behind near perfect shooting in the 1st quarter of action. The team would go on a 22-4 run to open the game.
Emma Hardy and
Haley Sailors both hit crucial three pointers in the opening period to pace the Lady Eagles. They got contributions from eight different scorers in the 1st quarter. Hannah and
Haley Sailors combined for nine of the Lady Eagles 24 points in the opening quarter. At the end of the 1st quarter, the Lady Eagles led 24-7 over Trinity Baptist College.
Heading into the 2nd quarter, the Lady Eagles hoped to keep the momentum on their side. They were able to do just that. The Lady Eagles again rode hot shooting on their way to a 23 point 2nd quarter performance.
Jessica Boyd scored 11 points in the 2nd quarter to lead the Lady Eagles. Boyd shot 4-4 in the 2nd quarter from field and 2-2 from behind the three-point arch. Her 11 points helped the Lady Eagles extend their lead to 47-15 heading into halftime. In the 1st half, the Lady Eagles shot 18 for 37 from the field and 4 of 13 from behind the three-point arch.
Asked about his team's performance in the 1st half, Head Coach
Jared Sellars said, "Our defensive intensity in the 1st half was great. It led to easy buckets and shots on offense. We got out on transition in the 1st half. Everyone played hard in the half; I can't complain with the performance."
Moving into the 3rd quarter, the Lady Eagles looked to keep their hot shooting going. However, poor decision-making and sporadic shooting characterized the Lady Eagles in the 3rd quarter. The team shot just 3-20 from the field in the period. Despite their poor shooting performance, the Lady Eagles defense would hold Trinity down as well. The visiting Trinity Baptist College Lady Eagles shot a combined 0-21 from the field in the 3rd quarter.
Joy Smith scored all 8 points for the Lady Eagles in the 3rd quarter. At the end of the 3rd quarter, the Lady Eagles led 55-18.
In the 4th quarter, the Lady Eagles rediscovered their shooting stroke, going 7-17 from the field in the quarter. They emptied their bench in the 4th quarter of Saturday's lopsided victory.
Marra McCauley and
Jenna Deloach came off the bench in the 4th quarter to score 10 points for the Lady Eagles. The Lady Eagles were outscored by Trinity Baptist College in the 4th quarter, but would ultimately hold on and secured a 69-37 victory over their conference rival.
In the game, the Lady Eagles shot 28-74 (37.8%) from the field and 6-21 (28.6%) from three. The Lady Eagles out-rebounded Trinity Baptist College 52-50 in the game and forced a season-high 32 turnovers.
Jessica Boyd was the only Lady Eagle in double digits with her 15-point performance. The team got contributions from 14 different scorers in the ball game.

Emma Hardy scored 8 points, and
Jenna Deloach scored 6 points for the Lady Eagles.
After the game, Head Coach
Jared Sellars was happy with his team's performance. He said, "We've had a good stretch this past week. Three wins, two of them against conference opponents, will go a long way in setting us up for next week's big matchup against Bob Jones. I was pleased with our performance, but I am excited about getting back in the practice gym this week and preparing for next weekend!"
With the win, the Lady Eagles moved to 13-10 on the season and 5-0 in conference play. The win gives the Lady Eagles 3 wins in the row. They will play an exhibition game against Bishop State Community College on Tuesday night as they prepare for their huge matchup against Bob Jones University on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Arlin R. Horton Sports Center Arena.
