Lady Eagles Win 5th Straight Against Trinity Baptist

Pensacola, FL — Just hours after moving up to #2 in the latest NCCAA DII Women's Basketball rankings, the Lady Eagles hit the court against conference foe Trinity Baptist College with their minds set on padding their already impressive resume. The hot-shooting Lady Eagles would go on to secure a strong 78-50 road victory and moved to 15-10 on the season including an immaculate 7-0 South Region record.

"We shot the ball really well tonight." Lady Eagles Head Coach Jared Sellars said afterwards. "We are making better decisions which leads to wide open shots. Making the extra pass tonight really paid off."

In the 1st quarter, the Lady Eagles jumped out to an early lead behind the shooting of Jessica Boyd and Lauren Battle. The duo scored the Lady Eagles first 5 points of the ball game and got the Lady Eagles off to a fast start. Deep in the 1st quarter, Haley Sailors provided a spark off the bench, scoring 5 points. The Lady Eagles would end the quarter leading 18-11.

The 2nd quarter saw the Lady Eagles begin to find their groove. The team caught fire from distance, hitting 5 three-pointers. Jessica Boyd buried two three-pointers and scored 6 of her game-high 15 points in the 2nd quarter. Buoyed by their long-distance stroke and stifling defense, the Lady Eagles headed into the half leading 44-28.

The Lady Eagles carried their momentum into the 3rd quarter. Senior point guard Lauren Battle led the team with 5 of her 13 points coming in the 3rd quarter of action. Asked after the game about Lauren's performance, Jared Sellars responded, "Lauren [Battle] is finally getting back into her groove. She made some great decisions tonight and really stepped it up defensively."

The 4th quarter again saw the Lady Eagles bench make a big contribution. Haley Sailors scored 4 of the teams 8 bench points in the 4th quarter. Coach Sellars raved about Haley's performance afterwards saying, "Haley [Sailors] came in and gave us some great minutes off the bench. She played under control and helped stabilize us in some of our flat moments." The Lady Eagles would close out this important road matchup with an 78-50 victory over Trinity Baptist College.

"We took care of business tonight against Trinity Baptist College," Coach Jared Sellars said after the game. "We got a bump in this week's poll, but it will be important for us to ride our current wave of momentum as we look forward to regionals next week."

Jessica Boyd led the Lady Eagles with her second straight 15+ point performance, finishing with a 15-point and 11-rebound double-double. Four Lady Eagles scored in double digits – Boyd (15), Battle (13), Moore (13), and Smith (10). The team will hit the court next against Judson College on Thursday evening at 6:00 p.m. CT in Marion, AL.
