NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana–The Eagles recorded a season-high 30 turnovers in an 87-59 loss to NCAA DI University of New Orleans in tonight's non-conference road matchup.
Ian Johnson led the team in scoring for the third time this season with a 16-point performance. Three Eagles–Johnson (16), Rose (11), and McCrillis (10)–finished the game with double-digit scoring outputs.
Tyler Rose finished the game with a team-leading seven rebounds while
Jared McCrillis and
Dakota Pratt tied for the team lead in blocks with two apiece.
The Eagles stormed out to an early 12-5 advantage behind the inspired play of guard
Ian Johnson, who scored six points in the four minutes of action. However, the Privateers would not go quietly. A made three-pointer and an emphatic dunk knotted the score back up later in the 1st half. Both teams remained close with the Eagles cutting the Privateers lead to just one with 7 minutes remaining in the half, but the University of New Orleans pulled away and went into the half leading 40-30.
In the second half, the Eagles failed to get their offense going. A bevy of turnovers led to multiple easy baskets for the Privateers. The University of New Orleans scored 33 points off turnovers in the contest and a season-high 58 points in the paint. The Privateers ran away with the game in the 2nd half and went on to secure an 87-59 victory over the Eagles.
The loss drops the Eagles to 1-5 on the season. The team will look to rebound from tonight's loss when they take on the University of Mobile tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. in a non-conference road match-up.
