Eagles Come Up Short in Tight Battle With Sky Hawks

WEST POINT, Georgia–A 1st half goal by the Point University Sky Hawks would prove to be the difference in today's non-conference regular season finale.

Goalie Brent Konieczynski helped keep the Eagles in the game throughout by collecting 8 saves. Forward Pedro Lima recorded two shots while Jake McClelland, Mark Brown, and Paul Stewart each tallied one a piece.

The Eagles came into today's contest looking for a statement victory over the 13-win Sky Hawks, but the home team would be the first to get on the scoreboard. Just 19 minutes into the contest, Sky Hawks forward Juan Gomez would bury the game's only goal off an assist from midfielder Gary Shorrow.

The defense of the Eagles would prove to be up to the test against a strong Sky Hawks offense that peppered the back line of the Eagles with 20 shots (9 shots on goal) during the contest. Despite the multitude of shots, the team's defense was able to hold the Sky Hawks down, but it was the Eagles offense that again failed to score. The Eagles would go on to lose today's matchup 1-0 in West Point, GA.

"We came into today's match with nothing to lose, but knew that the outcome could affect our postseason seeding." Head Coach Joseph Liwosz went on to say, "We played perhaps our best defensive game this year and our offense created several strong opportunities. This is exactly what we needed as we head into postseason play."

With the loss, the Eagles finished the 2018 regular season with a 3-13-1 record but head into the NCCAA SOUTH Region tournament with high hopes. The Eagles, who are currently ranked #3 in the NCCAA, will look to repeat as SOUTH Region champions later this coming week.
