JACKSONVILLE, Florida–Our Eagles Soccer scored late in the first half and netted three more goals in the second half on their way to an easy 4-0 victory over Toccoa Falls College in today's NCCAA South Region Semifinals.
Jake McClelland scored the team's first goal late in the 1st half while
Pedro Lima,
Nick Standridge, and
Riley Buchalski each tallied goals in the 2nd half. The Eagles also saw three players finish with an assist–
Riley Buchalski,
Nick Standridge, and
Jeff Thompson.
In the early stages of the 1st half, the Eagles were stymied by the Toccoa Falls College defense. Despite controlling the ball for a majority of the first half, the team was unable to find the back of the net. That changed late in the half when
Jake McClelland struck gold in the 40th minute off an assist by
Riley Buchalski. The goal gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead at the end of the 1st half of play.
The 2nd half was a different story for the Eagles. The team was held scoreless for the first 15 minutes of the half, but the Eagles offense went on a torrid streak that saw them score three goals in a 15-minute span to widen their advantage. The Eagles would go on to win the NCCAA South Region Semifinal over Toccoa Falls College by a score of 4-0.
"We controlled the game!" Head Coach
Joseph Liwosz continued following his team's victory, "We missed some big chances, but the pressure that we brought proved to be the difference maker."
The win over Toccoa Falls College put the Eagles back in familiar territory. Not only did the team avenge an early season loss to the Screaming Eagles, but they also advanced to their 2nd consecutive NCCAA South Region Championship game. The Eagles will look to repeat as South Region champions when they take on Trinity Baptist College at 12:00 p.m CT on Saturday, November 3 in Jacksonville, FL.
