The Lady Eagles came into tonight's contest looking to keep their early season momentum going. Tonight's contest pitted the Lady Eagles versus the visiting Judson College Eagles in the first game of the 2017 Lady Eagles Classic Invitational.
The Lady Eagles would come out firing, scoring 22 points in the first 10 minutes of tonight's contest. Freshman forward
Grace Imdieke helped lead the charge for the Lady Eagles, scoring 7 points and adding 5 rebounds in the early going. Sophomore
Tiffany Dover came off the bench to record 4 points in the first quarter.
Heading into the 2nd quarter, Head Coach
Jared Sellars wanted his team to get quality minutes. He said, "I was really hoping tonight that our depth would show up. I wanted to get quality minutes for some of our players who don't get to play that much." The Lady Eagles were able to do just that. Leading 22-0 at the end of the 1st quarter,
Jared Sellars was able to get everyone minutes. Our bench would go on to outscore Judson College by a shocking 49-0 margin in the contest.
At the half, our Lady Eagles led Judson College 42-16. Four Lady Eagles scored 5 points in half and the team would shoot nearly 43% from the field and 66% from the free throw line.
Heading into the 2nd half, the Lady Eagles were looking to improve their movement.
Jared Sellars emphasized this at the half, he said, "I told the girls to come out and play free and easy. These girls have had a tough couple of weeks with practice, school, and games. I was hoping that they would finish off a stress free victory. We told them to have a good time."
The Lady Eagles were able to have a good time in the 2nd half. They were able to ride the momentum that they had established to an easy victory. Junior
Marlee Moore led the way for the Lady Eagles in their 74-36 victory over Judson College. After the game, she said, "I wanted to see us play aggressive. We wanted to play our game." The Lady Eagles did play their game. On the evening, the Lady Eagles would score a season high 74 points and were able to extend their season scoring average to 63 points per game.
With the win, the Lady Eagles moved to 4-1 on the season. They will take on Randall University, a 3rd place finisher in last year's NCCAA National Tournament, tomorrow night at 6:00 pm.
