Eagles Pull Away Late to Defeat Southeastern Baptist, 89-80

Game Recap:
Coming off a victory over Appalachian Bible and a weather cancellation the following day, the Eagles returned to the Nest to host South Region opponent Southeastern Baptist College. After winning both matchups last season, the Eagles looked to secure their third straight win against the Chargers and improve to a 9-7 overall record. Following a slow start from both teams, the game settled into a tightly contested 40-minute battle. With 13 lead changes and 8 ties, neither side was able to create separation for much of the night. Over the final 13 minutes, the Eagles seized control and rode that momentum to an 89-80 home victory.

The Eagles opened the game strong, scoring their first eight points at the free throw line and on field goals from Kaiden Pack and Raul Bertinato to take an early 8-5 lead. As both teams found their rhythm through the middle of the opening half, Liam Gerdts and Blaise Conlon combined for 8 straight points to help maintain a 16-10 advantage. Southeastern Baptist responded with three consecutive scoring possessions to reclaim the lead, but a Conlon layup, assisted by Bertinato, halted the run. The contest quickly turned into a back-and-forth affair, with Conlon and Bertinato combining for 9 straight points and 3 assists. A Gerdts three-pointer later pushed the Eagles ahead 33-29. The Chargers answered once more, taking a 39-37 lead with just over one minute remaining. Late layups from Paul Stickles and Bertinato closed the half and sent the Eagles into the break with a narrow 41-40 advantage.

The opening five minutes of the second half mirrored the first, with both teams trading baskets and neither able to gain momentum. After the teams matched each other 11-11 during that stretch, the Eagles delivered the decisive run of the game. Over the next six minutes, the Eagles outscored the Chargers 20-8, sparked by a Bertinato layup and a Pack three-pointer. During the run, Pack scored 9 points, Gerdts added 6, and Bertinato chipped in 5 as the Eagles built a double-digit lead. Timely baskets from Luke Peck and Deric Woods helped maintain that cushion down the stretch. Despite a late push from Southeastern Baptist, the Eagles closed out the win to secure their ninth victory of the season and move to a 9-7 overall record.

Kaiden Pack led all scorers with 25 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists, shooting an efficient 8-of-12 from the field. Liam Gerdts followed with 22 points and 9 rebounds, knocking down four three-pointers. Sophomore Raul Bertinato recorded his 6th double-double of the season with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Senior Blaise Conlon rounded out the double-figure scorers with 12 points and 3 blocks on 5-9 shooting.

What's Next:
The Eagles continue their homestand Thursday night, welcoming LB Wallace to the Nest. Holding a 2-0 record against the Saints, the Eagles will look to remain unbeaten in the series and earn their 10th win of the season before February.
