Hot Shooting Fuels Eagles to 81–60 Victory Over Welch College

Game Recap:
After a tough road loss to Boyce College on Monday night, the Eagles had little time to dwell as they turned around for another road matchup against Welch College on Tuesday. Responding with a short memory and a red-hot shooting night, the Eagles drilled a season-high 16 three-pointers and dominated in Tennessee, securing an 81–60 victory for their sixth win of the season and first of 2026.

The Eagles set the tone immediately, as leading scorer Kaiden Pack knocked down a three-pointer on the game's opening possession. A few trips later, leading shooter Liam Gerdts followed with a triple of his own. Gerdts continued his early barrage, knocking down two more unanswered three-pointers to give the Eagles a 12–5 lead. Back-to-back layups from Paul Stickles and Josh Azucena pushed the advantage to 16–5 just seven minutes into the game.

With baskets from second-semester addition Blaise Conlon and Raul Bertinato, the Eagles extended their lead to 24–8. While the offense was efficient, the story of the first half was the Eagles' defense. Holding Welch to just 23 points in the opening half, including only 8 points in the first ten minutes, the Eagles limited the Flames to 6-25 shooting and forced 7 turnovers. Offensively, Gerdts led the way with 18 first-half points, shooting 4-6 from beyond the arc.

The second half opened with a more competitive stretch, as the teams traded baskets and Welch edged the first four minutes with a 10–4 run. After Gerdts scored his 20th point of the game, the Eagles quickly regained control. Three straight three-pointers from Azucena, Peck, and Conlon ballooned the lead to 53–33. Following four unanswered Welch points, senior Deric Woods scored his first field goal of the night to maintain a 55–37 advantage with ten minutes remaining.

As the half progressed, the Eagles found a major spark off the bench from Blaise Conlon and Luke Peck. Conlon poured in 13 second-half points on a perfect 5-for-5 shooting performance, including 3-3 from deep. Peck added 9 points of his own, knocking down three triples. By the final buzzer, the Eagles had secured their largest victory of the season with an 81–60 win over Welch.

Liam Gerdts led all scorers with 23 points, adding 6 rebounds and 6 assists in a team-high 33 minutes. Blaise Conlon provided a huge lift off the bench with 18 points and 4 rebounds on 7-of-9 shooting. Josh Azucena rounded out the double-digit scorers with 12 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists in his highest-scoring performance since November 23.
