Lady Eagles Split Day Two, Sweep Toccoa Falls and Battle Ohio Christian in Five

Day Two Recap:
After an incredible opening day of matches in the 2025 South Region Kickoff Tournament, the Lady Eagles set their sights on perfection chasing an undefeated, 4-0 tournament record. After a dominant 3-0 win over Toccoa Falls, another five-set thriller ended the Eagles goals of an undefeated weekend, falling one set short of NAIA opponent Ohio Christian University.

Match Three: Lady Eagles vs. Toccoa Falls College
After closing out Friday night with a dramatic reverse sweep over the hosting Bruins, the Lady Eagles had little time to rest before returning to the court for the first match of the day against South Region opponent Toccoa Falls. Despite the quick turnaround, the Eagles showed no signs of fatigue, dominating all aspects of the match to secure their third straight tournament victory.

The Lady Eagles opened the first set with an 8–3 run to grab early control. Toccoa responded with a 5–0 surge of their own to cut the deficit to one, but the Eagles quickly regained momentum. A powerful 8–1 stretch put the set out of reach as the Lady Eagles closed it 25–19. That momentum carried straight into the second set, where the Eagles controlled from start to finish, cruising to a dominant 25–13 win.

The third set proved tighter early on, with the teams locked at 11–11. But once again, the Lady Eagles broke the match open with a dominating 9–1 run to build separation and ultimately close out the set 25–20. The sweep secured the Lady Eagles' third win in as many matches at the tournament, improving their record to 5–2 on the season.

Match Four: Lady Eagles vs. Ohio Christian University
To close out the tournament, the Lady Eagles faced the undefeated Ohio Christian Trailblazers. With confidence built from a 2–1 record against NAIA opponents earlier in the year, the Eagles showed no fear stepping into what would become one of the most thrilling matches of the weekend.

The opening set featured three lead changes in the first nine points, setting the tone for a back-and-forth battle. A 5–1 run pushed Ohio ahead 12–7, but a six-point serving run from junior Hope Brooks flipped the lead back in the Lady Eagles' favor, 13–12. Despite the rally, the Trailblazers closed the frame on a 7–2 push to take the first set, 25–19.

The Lady Eagles refused to back down in the second. After falling behind 12–6 thanks to an 8–0 Ohio run, a timeout by Coach Vanderboegh settled the team. From there, the Eagles exploded on a 12–1 tear fueled by the serving of senior Allie Whiting and sophomore Madisyn Kandel. Ohio made a late push, but the Lady Eagles held on 25–21 to even the match at one set apiece.

The third and fourth sets proved to be instant classics, both stretching into extra points. In the third, the Lady Eagles twice built six-point leads at 12–6 and 17–11, but Ohio clawed back to tie it at 23. A clutch kill from Lyssie Metzker gave the Eagles a 26–25 edge before junior Anna Stephens sealed it with a solo block for a 27–25 win.

The fourth set swung like a pendulum. Ohio jumped out to a 4–0 start, but the Lady Eagles answered back to take an 8–6 lead. From there, neither side held more than a four-point edge. PCC appeared ready to clinch the match with a 24–21 advantage, just one point shy of a perfect weekend. But after a timeout, the Trailblazers responded with a stunning 5–0 run to steal the set 26–24 and force a decisive fifth.

In the final set, the Lady Eagles jumped out quickly with a 5–1 lead, only to be stunned by a 9–1 Ohio run that flipped the momentum and the scoreboard, giving the Trailblazers a 10–6 cushion. Two kills from Metzker and a pair of Ohio errors kept the Eagles within striking distance, but they couldn't fully close the gap, falling 15–11 in the set and 3–2 in the match.

The Lady Eagles finished the weekend 3–1, narrowly missing an undefeated run in Greenville but proving themselves as serious contenders in the South Region with two reverse sweeps, three dominant victories, and a gritty five-set battle against a top Trailblazer squad.
